Hi, I have been a vegetarian for the last 4 years and am pregnant with my first child (11 weeks) and am getting cravings for meat. Will I be ok to tuck into some steak at this stage of my pregnancy?

Answer: Hi there,
yes that should be just fine. You may just want to start out with something like a little fish or chicken before red meat as it might be a little easier to digest as you start back on meat. Of course with fish you do need to just check which fish and how much you can consume (see Food Standards website for government recommendations).

Keep up all your usual plant proteins as well and of course vitamin C rich foods.
