Food intolerance/allergy?

My little boy is 6.5 months and is eating a good variety of fruits, vegies, cereal and I have started to introduce proteins. We had no problems with chicken, tofu or beef, but I have tried fish (a small amount along with lots of vegies in a puree) twice in two days and both times he vomited before he finished the meal, although he seemed to be enjoying it. I am not really sure what to do going forward if an allergy could be a possibility?

Also, I have been making meals in the slow cooker for the rest of the family and it makes an excellent texture for bubs too - but I haven't given him any because I have used things like low salt stock or a tiny bit of curry and wasn't sure if these are ok for a baby?

THanks for your help!

Answer: Hi there,
it sounds like you and baby are going great, well done! With regards to the fish, hold off on it for a month or two and then trial a very small amount (with foods that you know are not a problem). If your bub reacts again, hold off till after 12 months and then see if he has out grown it. You may find that the reaction can get worse so just be very cautious, if the reaction is severe, then pop into see your GP for a referral to an allergy clinic.

Regarding the slow cooker, they are so fabulous for toddler meals, they take away any major choking hazard. Given you are using sodium reduced stock and even curry, that should be fine in a few months. At this early stage you will still be consciously introducing foods one at a time (that is one new food at any time), so it may be a bit early for fully mixed meals and in particular ones with condiments in them that may involve numerous ingredients. Perhaps closer to 12 months if all goes well.

I have some tip sheets on Huggies on starting solids and also a book that might help with solids, the links are:

Solids

Book club

(it is at the end as the books are listed in alphabetical order)

Plus a great little fridge chart I did with Organic Bubs on solids on my site:

Hope that helps
All the best
