hi
my son is two months old and is being fed on formula as i cannot breast feed. He started on s26 and kept vomiting up the feeds so he was changed to sma only to go through the same thing so a midwife suggested trying him on karicare ar. When i first bought it i accidently got karicare ha ar he done well on this and did not vomit. When i bought the karicare ar he began to vomit again could this be reflux or could my boy be lactose intolerant. I hope you can help me resolve this please.
thanks for your email question in regards to your baby and his reactions after feeding. You`ll find that different babies do have a variety of reactions to these different types of formula`s and as you`ve seen, one works better than the other for your little boy at this time. Karicare does have a wide range of formulas specifically made for those who can tolerate certain types of milks. While your baby sounds like he`s tolerated the Karicare ha ar, which is specially formulated to help prevent or delay the onset of allergies, it isn`t recommended for those babies who actually have allergies. It would be better to find out the underlying cause to find the answers to your questions, as babies change so much over each few months. Have you considered taking your baby to a paediatrician for a check up?
The karicare AR, which is a thickened formula, can work for babies with reflux, but it doesn`t always work for all babies, and could by why your baby is vomiting again after trying this one. Since you found a formula that was effective, then it makes sense to continue using it, but please be aware that there could be other reasons for your baby`s reaction. Sometimes an infection can cause vomiting for example… I`d suggest going to see your local GP first, if it is difficult to get into your paed doctor, and then he/she can always write a referral as needed.
Sorry we can`t help you with the answer to your question about could it be reflux or being lactose intolerant (or cow’s milk protein intolerant), however we do believe it is very important that reflux is diagnosed by a doctor. After visiting your doctor, if reflux is diagnosed or you need further assistance, please contact us again for more information.
All the best,
