Is he too young to expect him to sleep for longer stretches?

Hi, I am a mum of a 3.5 month old baby. He is being fully breastfed. My question is about night time sleep. We have a bedtime routine with bathing, then feeding and then off to bed. I also have purchased `its time to sleep dvd set`. We do use a dummy but he doesn`t need it all the time and when it falls out , it does not necessarily wake him up. My baby Jack is still waking up every 2-4 hours. My question is, is he too young to expect him to sleep for longer stretches? I do believe he is hungry when he wakes up and I feed him. I don`t believe he is wanting the dummy because when I try to settle him back to sleep with dummy and patting, it doesn`t usually work in the middle of the night. During the day, I stretch him to be fed every 3-4 hours.
Thank you.

Answer: Hi,
You may still expect to be feeding 4 hourly but soon you would hope he dropped either a 10pm or 2am feed and be sleeping a longer overnight stretch. Do make sure you don`t feed Jack off to sleep and do be sure to follow the settling techniques incorporating the feed/play/sleep method (replace play with a nappy change during the night.) It can take up to 3 weeks of persistence. Best of luck.

Cheers, Maree
