i gave my daughter a dummie to sooth her to sleep when she was born, she is now 4 months old and has started waking every 1-2 hrs in the night looking for it, how can i break this habbit.

Answer:
This is such a common problem but so many parents defer ceasing the dummy because they’re fearful of the protests without it. But honestly, after 1-2 days of some upsets, the baby does learn to settle without the dummy and generally finds their thumb or finger to suck and learns to self settle. The way to get rid of the dummy is to just cease it altogether. Pick a quiet couple of days when you’re at home and your partner can support you. Give her lots of cuddles and reassurance, perhaps an extra feed or two and just be emotionally and physically available to her to soothe and comfort her through this period of breaking her dependence.
Ultimately, you are doing the right thing. Once dummies have become a source of unsettledness rather than comfort and support to settle, then it is time to stop.
