I am 37 weeks and have just found out that our baby is breech. We have beent o the hospital and our obstetrician has tried to turn the baby but that was not successful. Can I still try for a 'natural' birth and if so what are the risks otherwise I am

More than likely it will be recommended that you have a caesarean. You may be lucky and find a specilist who may be able to offer you a vaginal birth. Research has indicated that there is an increased risk to the baby if born vaginally as a breech this is mainly due to many carers not being skilled in this area. A breech birth does require more care and closer monitoring during the labour and birth and if this is attended the outcomes are very good. Talk to your specialist and you may also want to get a second opinion forom another specialist.
