June babes 2011 Rss

hi girls

my DD2 Mikayla was born on the 9/6/11.

hopeing to see the girls from due in June on here soon.
If we already have a thread for babes born in June 2011 can someone please direct me to it.

good luck to all in these first weeks.

AFM
DD2 is 2 weeks 2days, and I have been advised by the MCHN to wake her every 3 hrs for a feed as she is not gaining much weight. but at the same time she is hydrated, we are getting plenty of wet & soild nappies. part of me wonders if it is just that all the different scales she has been weighed on are causing her weight to be miss measured. i only say this because in one 24hr period she gained 50gms but then in the next 7days she only gained 40gms. each time she was weighted on different scales as the first two were home visits. so different people with different scales.
oh well jsut have to see how she goes when she gets weighed on Monday.

Cheyenne is growing too fast

Hi BrookieB smile I've been having the same weight gain issues with Georgie! She was weighed on the 17th and had only put on 70 grams in the previous week. She was weighed again yesterday and had put on 310 grams the next week!! I had been making sure to feed her 2 to 3 hourly (apart from at night) the second week as she seems pretty content to sleep all the time.
I am now on my second round of antibiotics since she was born (chest infection) and have had to go back on my preventative asthma medication for the first time in 15 years. I'm wondering if this is having any effect on my milk supply - my guess would be yes! as the week she put on all the weight was the week I wasn't on antibiotics. Ah well, the trade off is that I can now breathe again!! laugh
Hey guys =)
Mias a week old already it's gone so quick! She is such a good bub! She only wakes once at night for a feed. Compared to DS who constantly screamed from the day he was born and still doesn't sleep at night..!
I can't believe she's finally here! grin
I hope everyone & bubs are doing well.
Nina Anne is now 3 days old. So glad I can finally move across to the baby born side of things. Atm, she likes to wake every hour or 2 during the night for a feed so pretty exhausting. My boobs are already twice the size of what they were a couple of days ago.

I'm so so happy to finally have her to hold in my arms. DS adores her and is constantly watching over her when she's not in her cot. Recovery is going really well.

I love her name!! Your DS sounds like a sweetie smile I have had a few Dolly Parton moments myself lately!!! laugh

I love her name!!

Thanks Nodrog. Her name is actually quite special to me. Part of the reason I didn't want to share it earlier as well.

DS picked the name before Christmas (anatomy scan wasn't done until late Jan and even then they weren't sure if it was a girl). When he chose her name I ran to DH and suggested and mentioned before he said anything stupid he should remember that my Nana's name is Antonina and she is incredibly special to me. I couldn't wait to share it with her after she was born. Unfortunately, she passed away during the pregnancy (7th April) and we weren't sure if we should still use it but DH thought it made it even more special.

Anne was my mother's middle name and she passed away 10 years ago so as far as I was concerned, the middle name was never going to be anything else if it were a girl. It also helps that my sister's middle name is Anne, as with my DH's sister and he has an Aunt Annie. So it's a popular name in both families.

My dad and aunty were both quite emotional over the choice of their mother's name for our new little girl and very happy about it. It makes me very happy that I can honour the 2 greatest female influences in my life in such a way. (LOL - I'm getting tearful just typing this). We've had loads of comments on the name and I'm very happy to share the story with all of you. Would love to hear the stories behind any other names if people are willing to share.

Hi my bub is 8 days old today and has been constipated for 3 days now. I was breastfeeding for 3 days and due to fast weight loss i decided to change to formula using s26 gold. Cooper is now feeding better and has more energy its just a problem he wont poo. Any ideas as to what i could do to help him?

That's beautiful =) I love names with meaning. Mia's middle name (Jessie) has been in our family for generations. My Nan's middle name was Jessie and her mother etc I'm not actually sure how far back it goes so I was very proud to continue the tradition =). Mia isn't sentimental but it was the only name me and DP both liked!
The story of Georgie's name is a bit silly really, actually the story of her big sister Hazel's name is a bit silly too!!
DH grows macadamia trees and we had a joke going for years that we would name all our kids after types of nuts, DD#1 is called Hazel because I fell in love with the name, when I suggested that we actually call her that DH said 'but that was just a joke!!' DH chose her middle name - Elizabeth - and I was really happy with it as I am a Jane Austen buff and LOVE Pride and Prejudice.
Which leads us to DD#2, her name, Georgiana, is the name of Mr Darcy's little sister in P and P!! I was really stuck on names and DH reminded me of it as it was number 2 on our list last time. I chose her middle name, as I am a fan of old fashioned names and thought it sounded great with her first name. So we have ended up with TWO themes - after me swearing that we wouldn't be a 'theme' family.
Hazel Elizabeth
Georgiana Ivy
Both botanical and both from Pride and Prejudice.
P.S. DH said NO to my first suggestion for a middle name (Darcy) as he said that was a bit obsessive!! Well what does he expect when he is married to an English teacher?!?

I remember I had a similar problem with DS. My sister and I went to the chemist and I was able to get something from there to help and it worked within one day. Can't remember what it was called though. It came in a liquid so I mixed some in a bottle for him. If you head to the chemist, they should have a few different ones for you to choose from.

Sorry I'm not much more help on it than that - it was about 3 years ago.

change formula. my DD1 had the same problem on S26 gold.
try nan or karricare and try to avoid the gold as they are richer.
other wise lay in a warm bath with him and massage his tummy. this worked for DD1 she pood in the bath. hehehe

hi girls glad you found me.

no stories for my names, just names we liked. we tried to go through the family names, but none of them worked for us. I'm boring I know. I love the family links to names. nodrog, I can't understand why DH thought Darcy was going to far grin . you have chosen beautiful names for your girls.

AFM I have thrush in my breasts/nipples, makes feeding very painful, it took two weeks to work out that this is what it is, as I was experiencing symptoms I didn't even know were symptoms of thrush. started treatment yesterday, feeding has been less painful, I was nearly ready to switch to formula, so hopefully the pain will be gone completely soon.

had DD2 weighed again yesterday and she had gained 200gms in 4 days. yay. we are in for a 9 hr drive with the girls on thursday as we are going interstate for a family funeral. my Grandma passed away on sunday. I really want to be at her funeral. i haven't seen her for years as she had dimentia (for the last 10 yrs) and we were asked to remember her as she was. that was 3yrs ago. she no longer knew we were visiting, even while we were there. so hopefully Mikayla will travel okay. Cheyenne was 5 weeks old when we took her to meet the family.

Hi Ladies,

Phew! It's been a while since I've had the time to post. (Even now I'm typing with two fingers while nursing!) We are settling in to life as a family of four. Love having DH home- he's a champ! Getting much less sleep than we need, but more than we had when Gabe was a bub! So, need to be grateful for that! Gideon is feeding well and giving us lots of windy Elvis-half smiles.

Brookie: Oh! I know exactly how excruciating thrush can be! I had recurrent breast thrush for THREE MONTHS with Gabe as a baby. And you would have found that the traditional treatments for damaged nipples actually make a thrush infection worse. I went through all the treatment options and eventually had to take some hardcore medication to kick it. This was the major fear for me with DS2: not labour but starting breastfeeding. I'm currently taking daily Inner Health Plus and Yakult to try to avoid it again. I really hope your situation gets sorted quickly.

Hi ladies
i can finally join you.

Flynn Christopher was born in the wee hours of the 29th. All going well so far apart from the sleep deprivation. 5 hrs in about 40 hrs is starting to catch up with me.

Hope everyone is well. Will pop back in later. xxx

Mummy to Hazza (Jan07) and Emmy (Jan09)

Hey everyone!
How is everyone coping with thier new bubs? Mia is an angel she barely cries and is just perfect! A big difference to DS (silent reflux & severe colic) he screamed from the day he was born until 4 months old and has always had sleeping problems (still not sleeping through grr!) so it's very refreshing to have a good baby!
I hope you all are enjoying your bubbies =)
I have time to post! Eric just had more boob so he's crashed. He's feeding like a champ. We have latching issues so yesterday I expressed instead of feeding him as my poor nipples were killing me! Didn't help coz I hardly got anything out. Bought some nipple shields and things are better. Still slightly painful but better then before. MW was happy with it so that's good. Seeing an LC tomorrow just to see what they say but knowing how they are it'll probably be a waste of time as I'm quite happy to give him formula top ups and the last LC I saw was so against it she made me feel like a failure before my milk had even come in. Still cranky about that.
He's put on a whopping 10grams since birth! Lol. Considering he was down 130g on Tuesday and up 10g today that's pretty good in my book. Going to the Dr on Monday I hope to get the week old weight and see how things are.

I'm dying for a day at home. Had Eric on Sunday, came home on Monday but was out before hand, went out twice on Tuesday, did groceries on Wed but forgot nappe\ies so had to go out again today, going out tomorrow. UGH! My Dad is apparently coming to meet Eric on Saturday so I'm refusing to get out of pj's, on sunday Mum's taking me pram shopping. She wants to buy something big and all we need is a pram as she bought our cot and change table last time. Then daycare and Dr on Monday. I just want to rest. Sucks being the only driver in this house! Anyway, whinge over. smile

DP's been great. He's off work for three weeks and pretty much doing everything. Cooking, cleaning, making bottles. It's his birthday next week so I'm going to do something nice for him. Don't know what it'll be yet though...

I'll catch up on the other posts later, right now dinner is calling!

oww gabesmumma 3 months!!!! that nearly made me cry. I have had a flare up in the last two days, so feeding is really painful again. just as I thought it was improving. I was not very strict on DD2 treatment, as 1ml seems like such a huge dose, that is the adult dose also. but I guess I will have to step it up now. FX by this time next week I will be clear. I hope!!!. it just hurst so much to feed, but I really want to BF her. so I'm very teary right now.

sorry for the hijak.

congratulations to dani09, glad you chose to join us. hope life is settling down for everyone. if it wasn't for this thrush things would be great for us. Mikayla sleeps well, only waking once a night if that. she is a happy little thing.

Hi Brooke, just in case you haven't seen this, here is the Women's Hosp reference sheet on thrush. It has some great diet tips that really helped me.

My link

I think the Daktarin works better than the Nilstat but see how you go. I eventually was treated with 150mg Diflucan every second day for a week: very expensive but a life saver!

I've had a few worrying signs myself that I've been trying to ignore!

Will write more later... bubs needs a feed.

Hi ladies

Well i have a little trooper on my hands. Flynn is 8 days old and has passed his birth weight by over 200g already. He has stacked on a whopping 400g in 4 days but all my kids have been big weight gainers. I must have very fatty breastmilk and as my midwives say 'Im a good cow"!!

Flynn is feeding every 3-4 hours and every now and then will give me 5 hours of a night time. He has picked up a slight cold from my other 2 kids but thank fully becuase im feeding he isnt producing snot just a little blocked up. He also has very small nasal passages which isnt helping.

My older 2 absolutely love Flynn and are very gentle with him. They let him be when he is sleeping and dont disturb him too much (he sleeps on the lounge in his bassinette)However when he is awake all they want to do is hold him. I have attached a photo, hopefully you can open it.

Hope everyone is doing ok with their new cherubs and getting some sleep.

Mummy to Hazza (Jan07) and Emmy (Jan09)

thanks Gabesmamma I got that one from the MCHN, and they also gave me the phone number of the GP who wrote it. this is what helped me wrok out that it was thrush.
well girls I'm all done.I have struggled with the breast feeding for 4 weeks but I can do it no more. it is still very painful during and after feeds. but the main reason I am stopping is my supply is going, i had to give Mikayla 2 formula feeds jsut to get her through the day yesterday, cause she had taken both sides and was then hungry 2.5 hrs later and I had nothing left for her, then in the evening she feed from both sides (emptied them) and was still hungry. so I have decided to express for the next few days but wean her off the breast milk (((SIGH))). i'm feeling quite emotional about this decision, but it is what is best for her. this happen when feeding DD1 also but that was at 11 weeks not 4. I don't think it is just a growth spurt as she is taking the same amount of formula as when I express (over night if she doesn't wake for the feed) but she is sleeping longer in between feeds.

as I said I truly believe this is what is best for Mikayla other wise I would be battling on through the pain. so yeah..... that is where I'm at.

I hope life is settling down for you all.
hugs to the bubbies.

BrookieB, if you really want to continue with breastfeeding then speak to your doctor about a prescription for domperidone. I used this with my son to continue breastfeeding when my supply was inadequate. I was so intent to breastfeed and was devastated at 3 months when I was told to offer him formula after a feed as he was getting enough from me.

At the end of the day, it's your decision and I've learnt that you're right that the most important thing is your baby's health and not whether or not you want to feed one way or another. However, domperidone works wonders and you will both notice the difference if you start using it. I have a number of other tips and tricks for increasing supply as I went through so many issues with my son, it's a matter of how far you're prepared to go. I know I'm not going to go through all those dramas again if they happen this time around.

Hi Mums,

Gideon has had two nights running where he has slept nearly 5 hours in a row: I feel like a million bucks! The feeding is going well although he doesn't stay on for long. Maybe 10 minutes tops? I remember Gabe needing ages to feed. I have his 4 week check up on Tuesday (just a few days early) so hopefully he is getting enough and putting on weight.

Poor Gids has a bad case of baby acne at the moment: you should see him when he gets red and grumpy! Thankfully, I went through it with Gabe and know it DOES go away eventually. Apparently, boys are more prone to it than girls so hopefully some of your sweeties will miss out on this delightful phase! blink

Brooke: Giving your DD those first precious weeks of colostrum and milk despite the pain of thrush was a brilliant start for her.

Dani: How gorgeous are your kids?? Gideon caught a cold from his big brother the day we came home from the birth centre! We were dripping saline up his nose which seemed to help: didn't know about the bm!

Hi, glad I found this thread!

My little girl Charlotte was born June 20, she's our first bub. She's 3 weeks tomorrow and the first 3wks have been so difficult! It took a whole week for my milk to come in and it only did because when she wasn't feeding I was expressing... She dumped 430g in 2 days after birth and the midwife said I had to give her formula top ups until my supply increased so I would feed her, express milk then give her the rest in formula. This went on 2 days before I was able to express enough to top her up and then by day 7 didn't need to express at all but she was refusing to BF! I was determined to BF and kept persisting through cracked bleeding nipples. She also has a tongue tie which made attachment difficult! I was exhausted and if not for my determination would have given up!

Now, at 3 weeks old she is above her birth weight (was 20g over at 2 wks 2 days), is fully BF every 2-4 hours and is doing really well! I wouldn't say BF is well established yet but we are heading in the right direction... and I can finally get a few hours sleep here and there!
Great that there is this thread as a first time mum I haves loved reading your posts. I've just popped in for a midnight lookin while I do a midnight feeding. I can't believe my beautiful girl is over 1 week. I thought I had a perfect bub only waking every 3 hours I can't believe some of uour bubs sleep all through the night.

How do u change the lilypie ticker? I know I use the psudo but what do u delete before and after the signature?
thanks for the advice Nessco, but I think with the thrush on top of the supply dropping we are both better off if I stop. I think part of why I'm so emotional is (I feel like crap &) this is to be our last baby, so i'll never breast feed again. the only memories I will have of breast feeding Mikayla is of pain. sad sad sad sorry. anyway decision is made my milk is almost gone now and it is too painful to consider trying to keep my supply going by expressing until we are both clear (this is slightly less painful that feeding her).

better go Mikayla is waking up.

Cheyenne is growing too fast

Hey everyone!
We've all been hit with a cold even poor Mia sad she too little to get sick sadsad
She actually doing pretty good considering me a DP feel like we've been hit by a truck lol she's alert, still feeding like a champ and not unsettled. And she's still sleeping from 10pmish to 6amish! Compared to DS it's heaven!
BrookieB: sorry to hear you were having so much trouble with trying to BF. Both DS & DD never had trouble feeding and I really feel for people who can't sad but your health and mikaylas health is the most important thing and if that means FF so be it.
Hope everyone is doing well and don't get a stupid cold!!
thank you all for your support. I've always been pretty easy going about feeding (BF or FF what ever bubs needs) but i think the thrush is hurting me and just making everything hard.

Cheyenne is growing too fast

I wish my supply would dwindle. Eric feeds every hour over several hours and it's doing my head in. I hate being confined to a chair (my abs and back muscles still aren't 100% so walking for log periods is out) while he sleep feeds. DP gave him two formula bottles last night/this morning coz I refused to wake up. I'm just so exhausted and waking every two hours at night and sitting there for up to and beyond 30mins is killing me. I'm considering weaning him now, I was going to wait til 3 months coz that's how long DD was BF for but I don't think I can do it. I expressed just now and got 100mls for him and it only took 15mins! I could just express but even that will get tedious.
BF just isn't for me. Never enjoyed it with DD (latching issues) and not enjoying it now. I'm just glad I've got a bub that has no problem with switching between bottle, nipple and nipple shield. And I know I'll feel better when I can buy a pretty bra that doesn't come with unclipable cups! Lol.

Anyone got any tips for keeping an older child happy? DD is being unruly and since I have no energy to play it feels like she's doing it just to annoy me. I feel so bad that all my time seems to be taken up feeding and settling Eric and she's missing out. She's so full of beans that she needs loads of stimulation which I'm not giving her. I've booked her in for a second day at daycare from next month but even that won't be enough to keep her satisfied. So anyone got any activities we can do that don't make much mess or noise?

How do u change the lilypie ticker? I know I use the psudo but what do u delete before and after the signature?

On the lilypie web site, there is a "ubb" code. Use that one and then you don't have to delete anything. I had problems trying to do mine and I found that advice most useful.

BrookieB – you poor thing. I feel for you. I remember how hard it was just to do formula top ups with Greyson. Just remember, at the end of the day – you just want Mikayla to be a healthy bub and not have to endure any pain. I’m so sorry that your breast feeding memories with her will not be good memories.
Skubala – hang in there honey. You’ll find these forums really good for support. With my first, we still catch up regularly on facebook and share photos etc. Those babies were born in November 07 so we’ve been going for almost 4 years. It’s great to compare stories and know that you’re not alone. Have you got Charlotte’s tongue tie sorted out yet? Feeding gets much easier once that’s done. I went through that with my first. I know what you mean about determination to keep breastfeeding. I had everyone telling me to give up but I made it to about 11 months with DS. I’ve decided this time, I’m not going to stress myself out, if it doesn’t work, I’ll just switch.
Declan&miasmummy – hope your family recovers quickly and hits that nasty cold on the head.
Tahra&Kate – I know what you mean about the feeding every hour. Nina does it in the evening starting from about 4pm thru to 6pm. It’s so exhausting. Last night I was so lucky and she slept until 4.20am. It was heaven. Do you have anyone around that can maybe take your DD to the park or just sit and play with her whilst you tend to Eric? Maybe once he switches to formula, you will be in a better position to do stuff with her? I can’t think of anything sorry. DS just likes to hang around whilst I feed Nina and it gets a bit much sometimes. I just ask him nicely to give me a break and then try to spend time with him when Nina is sleeping. He also likes to try and help Nina get to sleep by rocking her chair or just watching over her.
As for me, nothing much to report really. Things are moving along. Sometimes bf is going well and well and other times not so well. It tends to be harder in the afternoon/evening. I still leak in bed so sleep on top of a towel or with it wrapped around me. DH gave Nina a bottle last night as he saw how often she was feeding. Thing is, I can see she gets milk each time as she is also a messy feeder and it dribbles down her chin. She just wants to feed every half hour to hour and it gets so tiresome. She always falls asleep when feeding and nothing I do seems to keep her awake. She took about 80ml from the bottle. I’m sure I would have had that available if she’d just stay on and not fall asleep. Does anyone else have issues where their bubs fall asleep all the time whilst feeding or just keep coming off and then re-attaching? Would love to know what I can do to stop these practices.
