First time Mums, were you overdue? Rss

Hi Everyone,
I'm pregnant with my first child, due December 17th. My birthday is the 22nd December & of course Christmas on the 25th so I'm really hoping this kid wants to arrive on it's due date.
I keep getting told that I will be overdue because it's my first child etc etc so I'd like to see how many of you first time Mums were actually overdue.

When was your baby's due date and when did he/she arrive?
DD1's original due date was 3rd June, which they changed to 27th May at her 20 week ultrasound. She was born on 26th May (also her Nana's birthday) so she came a day early.
DD2 was 5 days late.
I think each baby & pregnancy is different, so I don't think because its your first you will necessarily go over.

DS was due on the 30th March 2010 & he was born on the 3rd April 2010. I was induced due to high blood pressure,so not too sure how far over he would have gone.
It is more likely that you will go overdue with your first; there are proper scientific and medical reasons for this but unfortunately I'm not the expert! Never mind, I'm sure there will be someone along shortly who knows. smile

I hadn't gone into labour by my due date so was induced, because I had gestational diabetes.
both my kids were born 2 days over.
I have also read that it is more likely for first pregnancies to go over.

I was induced at 11 days over with my first
Ds came a day early thank goodness too cause he wasn't small

I've also heard this about first time pregnancies. I'm expecting with my first on November 22 so am wondering if it's just an old wives tale. I'm a little bit worried that my little girl will come early actually! Don't know why, just a feeling I have but I'm not freighting too much. I'm sure she will introduce herself when she is ready.

I do believe every baby will come in on their own time when they see appropriate lol. My best friends birthday is on the 5th, my brothers on the 28th and my uncles on the 30th. They're all asking me to try for their birthdays so I tell them I'll see what I can do lol...... Can't wait to meet my little girl
My first was 13 days overdue. He was due on the 29th April, and came on the 12th May - one day before I was to be induced, phew!!

Like a pp said, it really depends on the baby and the pregnancy itself I think. In my mums group, most of us had our first babies late, with only about 3 out of 10 having them early!

Statistically you are more likely to go overdue with your first, however DD was nearly 2 weeks early. Not what I was expecting given my Mum had me three weeks late gasp
i was due on the 14th of july and he was born on the 9th of july so a couple of days early smile

4 days over sad

DS born 2010

DD was born 40+4.
I should have known we'd go 'overdue'...i'm late to EVERYTHING!!!

I was due on 6th Feb and she cam on 28th of Jan so 9 days early smile I think I brought on labour early because I moved house 2 days before she was born and I was moving and doing things for 2 days non stop.

First we had Each Other, Then we had You, Now we have Everything

Check this out http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/practical-parenting/pregnancy-birth/article/-/10002941/birthing-in-australia-all-the-facts/ this is about birth in general in aus. they say - The average duration of pregnancy in Australia was 38.8 weeks its an interesting article
Both mine have been over. My first was 10 days late, induced on 8 days over. Second bub was 4 days late but came on her own.

going off my dates he was born on his due date, going off ultrasound date he was 5 days early.

born not early not late. on time, the exact day my dating scan had given. And its an old wives tale about first time mums being late, as mentioned before more arrive early at 38.8wks, its just that is still believed. There was a recent article in the news about this..
Goodluck i hope your little one arrives on time for you.
First pregnancies are definitely more likely to go overdue - it isn't an "old wives' tale"!

The link Katherine_Michell01 provided stating that pregnancies average 38.8 weeks is talking about all pregnancies, not just pregnancies to first-time mothers.

This article states that the average length of pregnancies to first-time mothers in Australia is 40 w + 8 days: http://www.birth.com.au/Induction-for-being-overdue/When-is-my-baby-due
7 days over!

I said in general but I only know one of my friends who have gone over the rest were a week or 2 early
My first was overdue as well. I was due on 10 June and was scheduled to be induced on the 17 June but went into spontaneous labour that very day and gave birth on 18 June.

Funnily enough, I am pregnant with my 2nd bub and am due the same day as you, 17 December! Good luck to us both I say. I am also hoping that she is on time or a little early.

smile
DS was due 31st may & born 9th June. Good luck smile
My DD was due on June 1st and didn't come till early morning on the 15th and I have a few friend who were due not long after me and they were all well overdue!

Good luck, it is well worth the wait
Mine was born 13 days late the morning before i was meant to getting induced(phew) she was due 18th 0f April born on the 1st of may but in my mums it is bout half early half late and one on his due date good luck smile
Im yet to have a baby but from all the research I have done I believe every person is different. It depends on things like your genes and stress.
I was a first born and I was 2 and half weeks early. My best friend also had her first child 4 weeks early. Also a work collegue has her first baby 2-3 weeks early (the day after she finished working!!!). Other friends of mine have had their baby either just before, on or a day after their due date.
Good luck with everything!
dd1 2 weeks over dd2 1 week over. all depends on you and your body
hey,
although i havent read the article about babies born at 38.8 weeks gestation, as someone else said thats all babies. this means they've included babies that have been born due to c-section, which as far as i know normally happen at 38 weeks. so i dont think the average is very accurate.

my son was 14 days late, but my SIL had her son 1 week early n her other son 2 days early. i'm guessing that i will go over again (and hoping to go over 6 days so that baby can be born on 11/11/11, but we'll see how we go)

also i agree with a previous post that it all depends on your genes and the baby, but mainly your genes. my son was 8 pound 13 so i dont think it has anything to do with the size.

ask you parents n grand parents n i think that'll give u a good idea on if u will go over.

I was 16 days overdue. Bubs was due on the 11th June and arrived on the 27th. I turned down getting induced at 41 weeks as the scan and tests all showed that bubs heart rate was fine, the fluid surrounding him was good and i still had plenty of movement. I just wasn't keen on getting induced and wanted to go naturally. At 42 weeks & 2 days i was booked in for induction but went into labour naturally, having bubs early that afternoon.

From talking to friends some went over and some didn't, I think bubs will come when they are ready, they do say good things take time! All the best
All three of my boys have been overdue.
