Wondering what the huggies ladies have to say.... Rss

I'm thinking about buying a jolly jumper for my DS.

I think my DS would LOVE being in a jolly jumper. He loves to be upright and has great head control and neak strength. He is rolling over and he also likes to bear weight when we are cuddling/ playing.

I have read that they can cause issues with hip and spine development?!? But apparently there is no scientific evidence to support this...

Thoughts?
Our DD1 LOVED her Jolly Jumper! She only ever used it for very short spells as I was a bit concerned about how it wasn't a natual position for her to be in.

Our DD2 has been in it twice but its too tricky with big sister trying to 'help' her jump or trying to push her in it like its a swing laugh so Ive put it away and dont think I'll worry about it for her she's happy enough on the floor.

I think theres nothing wrong with a bit of time in them as long as its not for really long spells smile
Love them! DS was the same with great head/neck control and he loved his JJ. It was pointed out to me that he stood on his tippy toes prior to learning to walk and this could cause problems down the line. However he never had problems walking on his feet, he just stopped standing on tippy toes. He runs and walks very fast, all normal for any kid. I know lots of people who've used them with no issues smile
We have one. DS used it from 4mths til about 9mths (I think?). We only ever had him in it for short periods of time.

I loved sitting with him in it and seeing him explore and learn new things everytime he was in there.
we had one for DS he liked it but he would only go in it for like 3 times a week for maybe 10min at a time.
the problem we had was when he was lying down - nappy change, getting dressed etc his legs would start frog jumping like he was in the JJ.
I have heard bad things about them but I think that's because some people leave their kids in it for hours. we had it closer to the floor so he didn't really get the tip toe thing going on.

People will say it wrecks their hips or whatever. I think they're not that bad as i'm sure they'd be pulled off the shelf if they posed too great a damage. My whole family, over 15 children, have used Jolly Jumpers and most the kids are quite athletic so obviosuly hasn't damaged them any.
I didn't use them for long with my children. My son because i had no room or doorframes for a Joly Jumper and my daughter because she just decided to walk at 7 months so didnt REALLy need one for very long.
But the kids love them. Most babies i have seen love the idea of standing upright. This is perfect for that.
Meh, i got no problem with the things. Wouldn't tell a mother not to use one. What doesn;t impress me is the length of time you leave your child there. They aren't babysitters. There IS such thing as too long. A baby is easily tired. Small ammounts of time. Not long periods.

I think they are grat. Espec when trying to cook dinner and need both hands. Just make sure the feet are flat on the ground to avoid issues with walking on tippy toes later. I used it a few times a week for ten mins or so. Also good to put on the bathroom door when you want an uninterupted shower.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them at all. We got one for our daughter and she HATED it so it never got used. sad
awesome. thank you all very much.
So not too long or often, and close to the ground so he doesn't go tippy toes.

So no probs with a 3 month old going in one you don't think?
DD loves hers... She bounces up & down on us to let us know she wants to go in it blink According to the packaging as long as bub can hold their head up then they can use it!!! So as long as your little one can do this they should be fine..
not great for babies, the impact on their spin hips etc is huge, a baby sitter for the baby and yet another thing made to put a baby into to slow down the process of babies natural development, pretty much like walkers, bebo chairs and all the other man made stuff,

if you are going to use one do propper research on them and some of the issues that could arise, not just that other huggies mums think they are fine, 5-10 min max is what your baby should be in one and not before 6 months,

Thanks subzero, as I mentioned earlier I have been doing research prior to starting the discussion on huggies. You may have missed in my original post I have asked peoples thoughts on the fact that I read some of the negative impacts of jolly jumpers smile

DS had great head and neck control but I held off to as close to 6months as possible, I was worried about the impact on his bones and joints. then the person who brought it for us kept asking if DS liked it.

I probably haven't but most posts about Jolly Jumpers are the same, it never hurt my baby or what ever, we had one growing up etc, but why take the risk, and looking at your ticker your baby is too little for one,

also if you didn't know i am huge on baby self development and letting baby develop at own rate, and not using things like JJ and other, I use a pram and car seat and thats it, i would use a bouncer while i was in the shower and take the baby with me if they were awake

I used one, DD loved it. Do what feels right for you smile

I dont like them , my baby hates it.I have'nt even tried a walker either as i think whats the point they will be walking soon anyway and be hard to catch, im going to enjoy it while i can! She also not keen on the bumbo but loves her bouncer chair thing.Meh cheaper for me i borrowed the stuff of my sisters before buying to see if she'd like these type of things. Also when i put her in it it seemed a little unsafe to me , maybe it is safe but just how i felt about it.

After seeing how my baby does'nt like ay of these things that force her into a position. I agree with the self development makes sense.
I think they are fine in short spurts say 5-10 mins max per time. DS used one occasionally but more when he was older about 8-12 months. I did worry about the neck control when I first put him in it - 4 months? So didn't do it too much unt il he was older.

I dont really see the point in them myself other than keeping baby in one place so mum can do something else. I am big on self development too and never put my baby in any position she couldn't get in to or out of herself. As Pennie Brownlee would say they are baby containers- restricting baby movement rather than encouraging it. However this is just my opinion and I'm not trying to say anybody elses opinion is wrong grin

DD loved the jolly jumper, it gave her a different view of the world, rather than always being on the floor. I think they are fantastic!
If used correctly, they are perfectly safe!

I'm sure they would too.

Just like alcohol, cigarettes, slings that are totally inappropriate, cheap plastic toys, plastic containers / bowls / cups that contain BPA, food, make up, bath products that contain chemicals that are known to cause health problems. but yeah....I am sure they will get them off the shelf eventually. wink
a baby that is too little to support themselves in a standing position is to little to be in a jj. Supporting them by the crotch before their spine is strong enough puts pressure on the lower vertebrae. This leads to problems when they are teenagers/adults NOT when they are a baby. Back problems can be mild to severe. You won't find a chiro that recommends anything that supports babies in this way, whether its a walker, jj, baby bjorn - whatever.

Even the manufacturer says to be used max 10 mins a day.

Spines need time to develop. Why risk them for less then 10 mins of jumping. Spines are something you don't want to mess with. There are many other safer ways to let your baby experience the world.
