10 months old weight dropping 2 percentiles Rss

We had our 10.5 month old DD weighed and measured yesterday, with the results showing that she has now dropped almost half a kilo below the third percentile for her weight. She now weighs 6.95 kg, having only put on 65grams during the past 6 weeks though she managed to grow 2 cm during this time. She is still only small for her age, coming in between the 5th and 10th percentile for her height. This has also dropped over time, she was in the 25th percentile until she was 4 months, and then started dropping a bit in both height and weight.
She drinks about 400 to 500ml of formula per day, along with 4 lots of solids a day. Has been crawling for 2 months and over the past 2 weeks has started pulling herself up to a standing position. She is a very happy and active baby, just on the small side.
Our doctor suggested a trip to the paeditrician, just to make sure she is growing normally.
Has anyone else had a baby who dropped 2 percentiles, yet is perfectly fine.
I have another DD who just turned 3 and she is the opposite, still on the 5th to 10th percentile for height, but in the 25th to 50th for weight, so the opposite to my 10.5month old.
My little girl was also the same weighing in at 7kgs at 10 1/2 months. She had dropped down to the 25th percentile. She too also crawls around and is very active! She eats plenty and plenty of milk! My CHN was reassuring and told me not to worry as she is active developing normally and is just petite she is not skin and bones! We get a lot of comments about how small she is but thats her build just like adults come in different shapes and sizes babies do too! If your really worried further investigate it. Hope this has helped:)
Hi, I am not a doctor so I don't everything but a few things that you mentioned in your post probably need a bit of thought.

"She has only put on 65 grams in 6 weeks even though she managed to grow 2 cm in this time." When our babies grow they use alot of the energy provided by food for their little bodies to grow.

And if you take into account...

That she has been busy crawling and learning how to pull herself up on furniture and she is a happy and active baby therefore uses lots of energy.

Then if I was her mum I would not be worried at all. I think that you are doing a wonderful job. the percentiles are just statistics, they are not the rule and when considering weight gain all the variables need to be considered... like how active a baby is etc.

I have a daughter who is a little pocket rocket, I have had many people question why she is so small/ skinny throughout her life. The main thing for me is that she is healthy and happy smile

My cousin similarly dropped off the centile charts - she was 8.5kg at 18 months from memory. She seemed healthy and happy, but they went to see the paed who thought she was just small (although she was on the 80th centile for weight until she started solids). Over the next 6 months she didn't gain any weight and her mum was worried so they did tests and found she has coeliac disease. With the change in diet she's gained lots of weight, height, and is happier even than before. The paed was quite surprised that anything actually showed up on the tests, and said that only occasionally it does when the child seems otherwise normal. They tested the rest of the family and found her older brother and dad also had it but just didn't know as they had always thrived etc. I don't want to alarm you of course, just to let you know that a trip to the paed occasionally comes up with something! It's worth going if you're worried at all. Best of luck smile
Not much advice here as I don't have anything to give other than reassurance however DD2 was born on the 50th percentile but was only 7.2kg at 12 months old after dropping below the charts several months before. I would suggest going to get the appropriate testing done however I would put the lack of weight gain down to being quite active as 2cm in 6 weeks is a decent growth length wise (for a small child anyway). DD2 is now 21 months old and is still below the charts but she is bright, happy and thriving in every other way.
Both my kids whilst in a higher percentile for growth dropped off in their weight as soon as they started crawling and stabilised once they started walking. I think it sounds like she's going ok. I guess if it's still trending backwards at her 12 month check up they will help you with some suggestions smile
