advice on night time toilet training Rss

my daughter is completely toilet trained during the day, and she is 2 years and 9 months old.
i was wondering if anyone has some advice or stories on toilet training during the night. our toilet is located in the bathroom, so if i taught her to go to the toilet by herself, i am worried she will trip on something, play in the bath, or something else (i am abit of a stress head smile) do you train your children to wake you up. very confused.
also, she still has night bottles, do these have to stop first in order for her to stay dry for longer?
thanks in advanced.
Staying dry at night time is something that cannot be 'taught'. They're either ready, or they're not. Is she keeping her nappy dry? Or at least not waking up with a soaking wet nappy?

A special connection between the brain & the bladder which basically releases a hormone to slow down the production of urine while asleep needs to form properly, or they need to be able to wake up from the feeling of needing to wee enough to get up & use the toilet.

Our 4 yr old still wears nappies at night. She's desperate not to wear them anymore, but when we've tried her with just undies, she gets really upset when she wakes up wet. So for us, it's not worth it yet.

If you wanted to give it a go though, maybe try taking her to the toilet before you go to bed while she's still asleep to help her get through abit longer. Have her go to the toilet before she goes to bed, and it can help to make the last drink about an hour before bedtime. If she does start mucking around in the bathroom in the middle of the night, simply put her back into bed if you wake up. If you're worried about her tripping or playing in the bath, clear a decent path for her so she has nothing to trip on, turn the bath taps off TIGHT so its not easy for her to turn them on, and just incase, KEEP ALL PLUGS WELL OUT OF REACH!!

Good luck smile

Hi

My youngest is a month of turning 3 and is day trained and wears a night nappy, but most of the time she wakes up dry and if she needs to go in the night she wakes me up.. I think its a bit much for them to go by themselves in the dark of the night. My eldest used to wake me up too... took ages before she'd go on her own, she was probably close to 4 before she'd just get up and go and then return to bed. Before that she'd either play in the kitchen or lounge or wake me up... there was a lot of mucking around.

I think its just a matter of when the time is right for them, if they can consistently wake up of a morning and the nappy is dry then put them in undies overnight (of course with a mattress protector on the bed smile

I'd definitely stop giving bottles overnight, that will not help at all. She hasnt got a hope of staying dry if she's drinking through the night.
I have a 2 1/2 year old girl who has been using the potty for the good part of this year, its only been recently she has been doing really well. So far its been a month since shes done a poo in her nappy and about 2-3 weeks since she has only worn knickers during the day, she hasn't had an accident in a week and last night was night no.3 with a dry nappy. She still has about 50-100mls of milk in a sippy cup before bed. I'm yet to wake her up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet, but I do make her go before bed and when she wakes in the morning. I've found that when their ready it will happen. Don't make a big deal of it, every child is so different. Goodluck
