How heavy is/was your 6mo? Rss

This morning I took DD for her 6 month mch check up and the health nurse (not my regular) really got under my skin.
DD weighed up at 8.11. And she was making out that she was over weight and I need to cut out some of her food.

ATM she is only having 4bottles and 2 Solids a day. This lady was telling me to cut it down to 3 bottles and one solid meal a day even if she is hungry. just so she doesn't get to over weight, .

I personally don't think that she is over weight, she is still wearing 00 comfortably. And I certainly won't be cutting out any of her bottles or food if she is hungry.

So I was just wondering how big other bubs her age are and how much they are eating?
thats ridiculous i wouldn't listen to her she sound sfine keep up with what you are doing smile

DS was 9ish kg and i think he was eating 3 meals and had alot of BF's i cant remember exactly its been awhile

his weight slowed right down after six months cause he started crawling but there was nothing wrong with the size he was

he is 12kgs now at 17months

DD weighed 7.9kg, nurse said she was perfect, def don't think yours is overweight!
hi my bubba was 7.958kg nurse said he was in healthy weight range. He has 3 solids a day and about 6 - 8 breastfeeds. I wouldn worry to much.
My daughter is also 6 months and weighs 7.9kg. I was a bit concerned as she has put on 2kg in 2 months since I went from breastfeeding concto formula but my GP wasn't concerned. She has rolls on her legs but she doesn't look that big. How long is your daughter? Mine is 68cm. I've only just started her on solids and before that she was having 5 bottles of 180ml a day and not always finishing them.
You can never win aye. My DD was only 7KG at 6months and everyone would say "wow! She is so small".

If baby is healthy and happy, don't change anything. All the nurses see is what is in front of them. All babies are different, i don't think you can be obese at such a young age?

I won't be changing anything. I think she is beautiful and healthy.

Lj12 she measured 66cm
Your DD sounds perfect!

DS weighed 7.8 kgs at his 6 month check.
I agree with pp that your dd sounds fine and perfectly healthy. My ds at 6 months was 6.4kg so at the other end of the scale and I have the problem of people saying to me that he's too tiny. He's not he's perfect the way he is. He's now just about 11 months and weighs 7.3kg so is meant to be small.
You are doing a great job and I definately wouldn't be cutting back bottles. Once your dd starts crawling she'll need the extra energy!!!
Our son is 5 and a half months and he weighs 8.5kgs he is long and looks perfect and definitely not overweight. As long as your baby is healthy poo poo what the nurse says.
DS was fully breastfed and he weighed 9.3kg at 6mths. I always got told how beautifully healthy he was smile
Oh my! That sounds like terrible advice! I agree with everyone else that your DD sounds healthy and happy. As if you need to put her on a diet - no wonder us women have body issues!! That's kind of a joke as it sounds silly to insinuate your nurse was meaning that, but it makes me wonder ... blink

Anyway, I wouldn't worry as all that matters is your DD is happy and healthy. Heaps of bubs in my mums group were that big at 6 months and our nurse (we all have the same one) was very happy with their health.
Oh Dear... Thats terrible advice.

My Bub last check at 4 months he was 8.4kg and 71cm (He looks so long) My Nurse and GP both said how fantastic and healthy he was and were giggling at how off the scale he was for height.

EVERY Baby is different but I think if bubs is happy and healthy it would be very hard to have an overweight 6 month old when thier diets until recently have been limited to breast/formula milk.
I should have added to my post to take the health nurse's advice with a grain of salt. I had good ones up until DS's 18mth check up and she nearly made me want to cry. Seriously picked on all this stuff wrong with him and even asked me if I was a single mum...like wtf? Just because I was 24 (which doesn't seem that young) There are some good ones but there are definately ones that dish out all sorts of bad advice <img src='http://www.huggies.com.au/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />
My daughter is 6 months right now and she weighs 7kg which is double her birth weight , 3.5kg. she drinks 8 bottles between 90ml - 180ml and has just started having two teaspoons of avocado once a day.shes in size 0 allready because shes so tall.If she weighed 10kg i would'nt be worried, Those charts are ridiculous , every ones different as long as your not feeding your baby unhealthy food i dont see a problem. I think they need new training all these health nurses, they are good when it comes to settling and play time etc but feeding issues and growth i dont agree with them on.
My 6mo girl is 6.8kg and people can never believe she's that old because of her size. It's so weird to me that people can be so strict on what size a baby should be.There's an average for a reason!I've been pretty lucky with our maternal health nurse,so far we agree on just about everything! She also told me that most of these charts are pretty old and were done when it was the norm for most babies to be on formula so not to put too much stock in them,as long as bubs is gaining weight, happy and healthy smile
I was actually told the opposite when my DS got his needles, he is 4mths and weighs 8.8kg and was told he was slightly under. I laughed and told her "what a load of rubbish" she was not too impressed. As long as they are happy and healthy. My DD who are 2 and 5 were always small and people would comment and say of she is sooooooooo small and now its like "oh he is so big" Give me a break...
I can't believe someone would give that advice. My little man was 8.7kg at 6months his weight chilled out once he got moving. My little princess was 5.1kg at 6months she is now 13months old and just tipped the scales at 8kg.Strangley enough there was only 70gms difference when they where born.I did get told they would of liked to see a better weight gain at my little ones last weigh in but I figure she is reaching her milestones sleeping and I can't keep the smile off her face so no more weigh ins trust your own instincts xx
My DD1 is 5 1/2 mths & weighs in at 11.3kgs & 68cm!!!! She is chubby but not overly large, She is BF & has just started on formula for reflux, As I PP'd elsewhere, I had a little old lady tell me to put DD on diet "or to cut her formula", I took alot of satisfaction in informing her she was only BF!!! My BHN has checked her & is quite happy with her, BHNs attitude is that she will lose it when she starts getting mobile, I do worry about her size cause next to other bubs the same age she is a giant, But she is happy and healthy & thats all that matters... (Incidentally DD has 2 1/2 sisters from DHs 1st marriage & they were both big bubs too but now they are perfect age/height/weight
I hate when people tell you to put your baby on a diet!!! As soon as they start moving they lose it so don't take a word of it to heart! Anyway it's better for then to have some condition on them because teething etc often makes them lose their appetite and at least you know bub has enough to fall back on! My 4 month old is over 8kg and I have suh a good plunket nurse really reassuring who just said he's a big healthy boy and we r doing something right! So don't worry at all you r doing a great job!
My son was 2.65kg at birth at reached 8kg at 7 months.

My daughter was 1.8kg at birth and reached 8kg at about 11 months.

Your daughter sounds perfect to me, I have no idea what that nurse was on about! I didn't think it was ever a good idea to put a baby on a diet.
my lil man was 10.3kg at 7mths and the nurse said he was healthy as he was a big baby to begin with, he just turned 1 and now weighs 11kg, all babies are different and shouldn't be put on diet at that age, once they start crawling and walking their weight stablizes.
