new parent 9 week old baby girl need advice on sleep cycles Rss

Hello all. I am doing the GINA FORD contented baby book schedule seems to be going well. No more than four hours sleep a day between seven am and seven pm. My baby only seems to last one hour and half and needs sleep. Sometimes she can stay awake longer but she does need to go down most naps no more than one hour and half. Is anyone else seeing this trend in your little one?

My Baby sleeps from seven pm to 1030 then 1115 till 430 then 445 till 7 am.
We are very happy with this but according to the book she should be able to stay awake for longer periods during the day

Think I may have a sleepy baby on our hands!!
does anyone have any advice or any other good books worth reading.
We couldnt have done it without the GINA Ford Contented baby book a big thanks to my girl friend Lizzy and Nay for buying it for me.
I recommend this book to everyone.
Hey, Congrats on your little one....

Firstly, at 9 weeks old, babies shouldn't be awake for more than an hour at a time and this includes feeding, "playing", nappy change etc. I've never heard of that particular book but 4 hours sleep a day doesn't seem enough at such a young age imo!
We lightly followed baby bliss by Jo Ryan and its fantastic.

At 9 weeks old my dd was up for no more than an hour and would sleep for as long as she liked... Usually no more than two and half hours though as she was on the boob! Personally, I don't like the sound of the book you're reading!

If you have a sleepy baby ..... Just enjoy it! Some people arnt so lucky! Again Congrats on your bub!

HI - I followed the Gina books for my first boy who is now 3, and am doing the same for my second boy, now 3 months old. Don't listen to the knockers, if you feel her routines are working for you, stick with it. I don't follow her advice to the letter. Each baby is different and you have to work out how it works for you and your bub.Our second baby at 9 weeks, also struggled to stay awake longer than an hour and a half, so you just have to adjust the routines slightly. Now at 3 months according to Gina, he should be sleeping no more than 3 hours in the day, but he sleeps about 3 1/2 and still sleeps from 6:30pm til having to wake him at 7am, with a sleepy feed at 10pm. He has always been a sleepy baby.
After following Gina's routines we have a 3 year old who sleeps in a big bed and does not get out of bed in the morning until we come to him, and we have a 3 month old who self settles and has to be woken at almost every sleep.
I'm not saying there won't be hitches, but I strongly believe persistance pays off. What works for you and makes you and baby happy is the best way to go, and Gina's books aren't for every one.
thanks again for your replies is really good to hear what others are doing.
cheers for that smile smile
