Amniotic Band Syndrome Rss

Like to hear from any mums who have had this and had healthy children?
Hi,
I had it in both my pregnancies and have 3 healthy children now (illness initially unrelated to ABS). I was lucky as I had an OBGYN who knew a lot about it and actually had a sister who had lost 2or3 toes as a result of the condition. She monitored it very closely as I believe it can cause devastating damage to a growing baby. Mine was low with my first and as it was over my cervix prevented a premature birth and they had to break it for baby to be born. My second was on the side and it disappeared at some point because she couldn't find it at 30 or 32wk scan and the problems I had in this pregnancy had nothing to do with it at all. Close monitoring is the name of the game and they told me they could laser it if there was an risk to the babies.
I hope this helps and good luck with the pregnancy!

My gorgeous baby girl was delivered by emergency c-section at 34 weeks as i had ruptured membranes and got an infection. when she was born the doctor told us that she had amniotic banding to the tip of her left fingers, a band around her ankle and a small cleft in her hard pellet (back of the mouth)the banding caused amputation of the tip of her fingers where the band is, she will most likely have surgery to seperate the fingers when she is a little bigger. her ankle band is no problem and just looks like a ittle fat crease. The cleft was also caused by the banding but it is no major problem and could possibly close over on it's own or she might need minor surgery. we had no idea about this untill she was born. it is unfortunate that it happened but we are so thankful to have her in our lives and she is perfectly healthy in every way.
Congratulations on your little bundle of joy!!! It's amazing how such a little person can bring so much happiness, joy and love. GL with everything sounds like there will be a little bit of hard times ahead but all worth it in the end....smile
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a support group for parents that are going through with this ABS condition in NZ?
I'm new to this ABS condition and finding out more by reading every experince there is available through google and it amazes me what this ABS can do to a precious loved unborn ones and also the ones that is born. Would like to hear if you have experince this yourself and how you got over it really. Thanks
HI,
Im 29 weeks pregnant and was told at my 19 week scan that my baby is only going to have it's right arm. the left arm just below the elbow has been amputated off due to amiotic banding. I was wondering if anyone knows of a support group in australia for us.. we live in Queensland.
hi i am 30 wks im due the 18-4-13 at my 20 wk scan there seemed to be something wrong with my babies left hand so they sent me for a more detailed scan at the Adelaide women's and children hospital. we found out that he was missing his left hand. i felt crushed! they said that it was most likely from an amniotic band getting wrapped around his hand and stopping the growth. when i got home i looked on the net and some sites i found that have helped me are amnioticbandsyndrome.com and superhands.com i know he will be just fine with one hand and do the things other kids can do, but it still doesn't make it any easier to think he will only have one hand. I would like to know if there is a support group in South Australia i would like to meet/talk to people who are or have gone through this
