Self Weaning from Dummy Rss

Hi ladies,

I was just interested to know if anyone's little ones have self weaned from their dummy and if so what age were they?

I was just going to let DS go until he decided he'd had enough of it. However, today he just didn't want it...kept spitting it out for his morning nap and wouldn't even take it in the afternoon. He fell asleep without it but then grabbed it when I put it in his cot for him.

But this evening I didn't even offer it to him and he just nodded off to sleep, in HALF the time it normally takes him. I've put it in his cot but he still hasn't grabbed it yet, an hour on.

Has anyone had an experience like this that was a one off? Or anyone else that's babe just decided one day they didn't want it and didn't take it again?

I am pretty sure he isn't teething, he's been really happy, eating well and walking with our dining room chairs all day when he is generally happier to crawl around.

Any ideas?
No, my DD hasn't done this really but lately she has been throwing the dummy and hitting it away when I try to put it in her mouth so she is rejecting it in a way but won't go to sleep without it still do I've been putting it in the cot next to her for her to put it in when she wants!

I'm hoping this will lead to weaning off the dummy though - will save us struggling later on grin good luck with your DS! X

Hi Nic,
My DS (turns 1 this Tuesday) has in the last couple of weeks started to not want his dummy and doesn't seem to need it to go to bed. I have just offered it to him as he was very overtired and he again refuse it. I think they just get to a stage where they don't feel like they need it anymore. I get what you mean about the dining room chairs, until my DS could walk he walked the chairs around the house and we have tiles so it made a terrible noise. He is happily walking everywhere now and it much quieter in our home especially at 6am when he used to love the idea of waking the house chair walking, (my teenage son loved that!)

We didnt have this but I think its fantastic that he is doing it, It makes is so much easier for you as you wont have to go through weaning him off it by just taking it away etc. Great if hes going to comfortably do it himself some people have real battles and sleepless nights gettign rid of the dummy.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

Yes this is exactly what I am hoping for, I know how difficult it can be. I am thinking I may just try and go tomorrow without it and offer it if he needs/wants it.
DS decided to stop his dummy at 9 months old when his 2 top front teeth came through together.Just stopped cold turkey but he liked to hold it wehen going down for naps.

DD would never take a dummy as a newborn, just keep spitting it out.She much prefers her thumb, still does.

Funny little things arent they !?
