Uneven thigh rolls or "creases" Rss

The nurse advised that my little baby of 8 weeks has uneven creases (rolls) in her thighs. She mentioned that for some babies it is a hip problem and advised me to consult my GP.

Has anybody had this problem? Is it something to worry about? I see my GP next week, but I am a bit worried about it.
It *can* mean hip problems - my understanding is that all babies with hip dysplacia would have uneven creases and it is one of the first signs that something is wrong - but it doesn't mean that there definitely *is* a problem.

My DD had uneven creases and did not have hip dysplacia, even though hip dysplacia is very common in breech babies (she was breech to 36 weeks although was not a breech birth).

Don't worry about it right now. It doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong. If there is something wrong though, it's better that it's picked up early. It will certainly be able to be treated with a harness or brace or cast for a few months, and by the time she's toddling you won't know that she'd ever have anything wrong.

BTW the GP will probably refer you for an x-ray before a diagnosis can be made, so depending on the wait in your area, you might not get an answer immediately.
My DS has a skin fold on his right thigh, but not his left. He had an ultrasound at 5 months and his hips are fine smile
DS#2 had uneven, didnt need ultrasound, just GP to check hip movement and see if there was anything to worry about. Don't stress. My DS#2 was fine.

My plunket nurse also told us that our wee 8 week old had uneven creases and referred us to our GP. The GP said he thought they were fine, but referred us to the hospital for an ultrasound. He was absolutely fine! the nurses were so good with him and he didn't mind at all! No abnormalities were detected. I guess they just want to play it safe. Good luck.
I wouldn't worry too much as a lot of the time it is done as a precaution. My DS had uneven creases so he had an ultrasound which he laughed right through and everything was fine. I think it's better to be safe then sorry. Good luck I hope everything is fine smile

Thanks a lot for everybody's replies...

GP referred us to an ultrasound. We did the ultrasound today, according to the sonographer, everything seems fine, but I guess GP will confirm it once they send her the report.. I am much less worried now smile
My little one had the uneven creases and the GP did the "click" test where they grab the legs and bend them up. This was done at her baby wellness check ups and nothing was detected. At 10 months old she would waddle when she walked. I took her to another GP who sent her for x rays (too old for a ultra sound on hips) and she was diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hips (DDH). The creases don't always mean there's an issue, but sometimes it can be an indicator. My daughter is now 4yrs old and after surgeries, spica body casts and braces is finally just on monitoring.
I am glad it seems okay with your baby. My eldest daughter (2yo) has uneven creases and doesn't have any trouble but my 4 month old daughter is in a Correctio harness now for hip dysplasia (DDH). She doesn't have uneven creases. My eldest had more indicators (first born, girl, uneven creases etc) than my other daughter. The picked up the clicky hip at birth but I was mis-informed by the paediatric sonographer to wait until 3 months before going to orthopaedic specialist. If in doubt get a refferal to a specialist and the sooner the better.

Hope all pans out well xx
My 8 month old has x-rays tomorrow for the exact same reason. Her uneven folds have been there for ages, but the nurse at her 8 month check up last week advised us that it could be an issue and to get it check out. We saw our GP yesterday and she has referred us to paedeatrics, only problem is we cant get into see the paeds doctors because the GP didnt put 'urgent' on the referral.

Even though it's probably nothing, it's gut wrenching to think that there is anything wrong with your perfect little baby. I went to pieces yesterday and I am still struggling to cope with it today. The husband and I are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

Hi, we've been through the DDH (developmental hip dysplasia) journey, and I'm petrified for bubs due in 4 weeks. I created a fb page years ago for help/support and advice. it can be found here DDH support group

I hope you get in to the ped ortho soon. Big hugs to you all
