Baby length vs adult height. Rss

I was at plunket the other day for DS's 10 month check up, and found out (what I thought) was a really interesting fact. We measured him and he was still around the 80th percentile for height (he has always been quite long since about his 6 week growth spurt). I asked the nurse if there was any correlation between baby's length and their height when they were adults. I'm only 5 foot and DP is around average height. And she said that a reasonably accurate estimation of adult height is double boys height at 2.5 years and double girls height at 2 years. Anyone out there with toddlers this age? Or anyone know what their toddler's height was at 2/2.5? It would be interesting to find out their estimated adult height compared to yours and your DP/DH smile

Thats so weird you say that i just did a quick non accurate measurement of my 3yr DS and he looks like he will be around my height.
As for my 5mth old DD she was in the 97th% range for her height and weight at her age and i think she may be like my FAther he is over 6foot as DP and I are around the 5foot something range As for her weight i told not to feed her sweets because she is a big girl. (not that i feed her sweets anyway) Is she trying to tell me she's Fat i think soo! LOL But again she is five months i think maybe she will strip it when she starts crawling/walking.
I am about 163cm so short-average and DP is quite tall not sure exactly in cm. Around 180-190? DS is about 91cm at 2.5 years old so he will be around 182cm at adult height. Nice and tall like his dad smile

If I double my daughters 2 year old height, she will be over 6 foot 2 !!!! Which is taller than both me and her father. I know she is going to be very tall, but I kind of hope she doesn't end up quite that tall!!
My 2 yr old if was to double her height she would be 186cm tall which would be 6 cm taller than me but nearly her dads height

Poor thing cos for us tall gurls when comes to wearing heels that they make knowadays tower over most women
But we can see over a crowd grin

And their have been times were I felt like a giraffe
I was told that too but I don't know of anyone who can prove it!
Be interesting to see if it's true!

Haha! My best friend at school was like that! She hated standing out so much.

It was also hard for her to find pants that were long enough! They were not exactly a wealthy family either so getting some professionaly made was out of the question.
She either wore pants that came 1/3 of the way up her calf and tried to hide it with socks sometimes, or she wore some that her mum had made which were "obviously' homemade too. Usually in some hidious fabric aswell! Poor thing!!!

Her biggest concern was that people could see up her nose and see her nose hairs which were rather dark!!! To be honest I never noticed it until she pointed it out. I didn't see the big deal anyway.

Just thought that I'd point out to everyone who wants to be tall that it's not always ideal!

Oh yeah! She would usually duck down in photos so that she would not stand out too!

Sorry, I think this is an old wives' tale and I don't think it works!

My parents tried to work out what my height would be using this method. They came up with 5 foot 10 inches, which yes is very tall, but my father has two sisters who are 5 foot 9 and 5 foot 11, and I have a cousin who is over 6 foot (and has been since age 12) so it didn't seem unreasonable. But, I'm only 5 feet 4!!!

DD was 84 cm at 2 years (I think) so this would work out to about 5 foot 6 if true.
This was apparently a very common theory when I was a toddler, coz my mums talked about it before. Based on my 2 year old measurements (or whenever they did it then would have to check with my mum) I was supposed to be over 6foot. Well.... I'm not, i'm 5ft6&1/2 so very much average. My brothers and I were always tall for our age as toddlers and none of us are anything but average now or slightly above.

So based on my family I would say that its not true... but who knows it might be for you. smile

a peadetrician told us there is no exact science, however with boys, she said to add the mum and dads height together, then halve that and add 12, and you will get a rough idea of how tall they will be when adults. I did that and our 18 month old son will be 187cm, 2cm taller than his Dad!!
DS isn't 2&1/2 yet but he is 85cms which would mke him 170cms which is taller than both DH and I lol i wonder how tall he will be
and with sandie s's method he will be 173 when grown

i'm 158 and DH is 164
My parents tried that with me when I was 2. According to that measurement I was meant to be well over 6 foot. Didn't work as I ended up just about 5.5 so I wouldn't rely too much on this particular "old wives tale".
I understand everyone calling it an old wives take, but I still think its a good bit of fun. I asked a friend of mine, who is 5th year med doing paeds, about it, and she said it is all to do with body proportions being almost perfect at those ages. But then genetics take hold and body proportions change, some people have really short legs but still have normal length torsos etc.
