Plagiocephaly

Hi our daughter is going for an X-ray today with brachycephaly with plagiocephaly. I saw some of you are in nsw and was wondering if you could give me some names of people we could go and see our daughter is 6 months old and we want to get things started. Also is the helmet cover by Medicare or if not roughly how much are they? Lilly is 6 months old we have been asking dr about her head since she was about 5 weeks old saw different gp an he is doing something!! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks smile

The best thing to do is get a referral from your doctor to see the neurosurgeon throu the Helmet Clinic at The Sydney Childrens Hospital (Randwick) sorry but I can't remember her name. They will do everything for you and it is covered by medicare. So many doctors have no real knowledge about this problem I found it best to go straight to the people that specialise in this. It's one of those things that needs to be dealt with as early as possible for best results.

Thanks heaps I contacted helmet clinic today and they are booked out till September. We have to get our referral in and it will be reviewed on Thursday if we are lucky they might squeeze her into an earlier clinic. Fingers crossed that happens otherwise we are looking at no being even seen till she is about 8-9 months old. So frustrating I just want it to happen now. We have decided if the wait is too long we are going to look into going private.

Thats good news that you were able to get in contact with them. From what I recall they will prioritise your daughter due to her age. They are quite good like that. If all goes well hopefully they will fit you in sometime within the next month.

We finally have an appointment but not for 6 weeks sad just wondering if you know if you can get coloured helmets or just white? If they think she needs one she will get measurements and moulds taken same day!! I think she will need one I just want it to hurry up and be here!!

That's great that you have an appointment and that they will do measurements and moulds the same day as we had to come back for the measurements and mould to be taken.
You get to choose from a variety of colours and patterns. We chose a mauve helmet with butterflys for my DD. I can't remember what the other options were now sorry.
The large waiting room at the hospital for the helmet clinic was great as they had heaps of toys for the kids plus it's great to be able to speak to other parents who are going throu the same thing as you which is very reassuring.

Just wondering if people have had positive outcomes with the helmet therapy?
