Do You Vaccinate & Why?
When I worked in Childcare we had many a child vaccinated for chicken pox one little boy was vaccinated and then came down with them, the strain was minimal but the Doctor said he may of already had the chicken pox virus before he had the chicken pox vaccine. hope that makes sense..
I do vaccinate.....we have done all the scheduled vax for DD who is now 13mths, plus the rotavirus vaccines at 2/4/6mths (cost us $240 all up).
My main worry was the 12 mth MMR one....friends of the family had both their girls react with brain swelling/encephalitis and resulting severe brain damage. This was back in the 1960s but was enough to make me do my research. The statistics nowadays show this is much more likely to happen if your child contracts the measles disease than as a reaction to the vaccine, as they have improved the vaccine significantly over the last 50 years.
FYI the rotavirus vaccine has been great.....DD has only had 1 v mild case of gastro in 13 mths (and Dr suspected that was a reaction to the 12 mth jabs cos she also had a rash and fever), compared to most of her friends who have had 3-4 major gastro cases incl several with repeat hospital admissions. And those gastro bugs went thru their whole families incl their preg mums and/or newborn baby siblings.

yes for sure i vaccinate my girl. i dont want to start anything with the mums that dont do it, but its sad that you dont with these days there is so many diseases going on you just never know.
I would hate to see a baby or a child end up in bads ways if there arnt vaccinate.

i have an auto immune disease its a inflamatory bowel disease and my son has aspergers which is a form of autsim and im 110% sure they werent caused my immunisation.
people that deside not to vaccinate say they have "researched" ok.... where? the net? unreliable.
books that are bias.
genuine medical evidence is what u need and u will get that from a doctor.
i got my crohn's disease, lm possitive it was caused by an acne drug called roaccutane, not vaccinations...
those that dont vaccinate will have a hard time getting their kids into pre-school and school for that matter..
it wouldnt be strongly reccomended unless its benefical.

All my 3 children are vaccinated. I remember when we had our first a story came on the news about a child that was diagnoised with autism after 2nd lot MMR, so i questioned my GP and was told that there was no hard evidence that MMR was the cause of any autism. That most will have had signs from a very early age that just werent picked up.Whether this was correct i dont know but DH and I still decided to go ahead with vaccinations for all 3 children. We figured that if doing so was helping to iradicate diseases then it should be the done thing.I used to work with someone that never and she had trouble from other parents which is very uncalled for.I think its all up to the parents to decide and it also depends on what we are told by our health professionals as to how it helps with our decisions.
I vaccinate, but I would like to pick you up on a few things here...
Doctors risk losing their medical licence if they recommend AGAINST vax.
That statement has no merit to it what so ever, children CAN and DO go school without being vaccinated, all you need to do is take a form to your GP to sign saying that you are aware of the 'risks' and have decided against vaccination.

kate jazzy zachy, u r the one that is wrong actually! there are rare cases where doctors reccomend not to vaccinate...
and i no fo a pre-school in my area that wont take your child unless they r vaccinated and up to date with the vaccinations.. i didnt say they cant go to school i said its harder..
we both vaccine so whats your prob?

My DH and I researched vaccination while at university. Here we had access to most of the credible and up to date scientific and medical journals and books containing information and studies on the subject of vaccination.
I feel sorry for you if you are getting all your "medical evidence" from a doctor. Surely your are aware that as well as what KJZ said, they also recieve money from the government for every person they vaccinate. They also recieve free equipment, computers and holidays from drug companies!!!
Did you know that GP's used to recommend people take up smoking for weight loss!?
mumtogirls,
thats great u researched it at uni! good for u! credable information im sure, just as doctors have crediable info, sure there might be money invloved, but the governement funds it.. we dont pay, i think u r forgeting we vaccinate to eradicate disease which it has been SUCESSFUL at doing.
dont feel sorry for me not everyone gets to "research" vaccination at uni. but im sure other people that "reasearch" dont get that credable info they learn off bias and inaccurate resources such as the internet and books...
yeah they may get computers holidays and whatever else from "drug companies" not vaccine comanys .. they... i'll say it again r government funded so they dont get prizes for vacinations!

Jake Cindy, we do pay for vaccinations with our tax money and pharmaceutical companies do make vaccines. The government and doctors rely on research from the pharmaceutical company producing the vaccine in regards to its safety and effectiveness, kinda putting the fox in charge of the hen house isn't it?! Please don't assume that the government knows best!!
What I am trying to say is that people who choose to vaccinate are generally well educated people who do A LOT of research before choosing not too, not just because of a passing phase or a google search!! It is not a simple matter of a jab in the arm, protection against disease. We weighed up the pros and cons and found that it wasn't for our family. If you choose to vaccinate then good for you but don't assume that people who don't vaccinate are choosing to do so based on internet searches.

I don't want to start an argument, as I said before we do immunise but we are not completely sure on weather or not this is the best decision. I don't want to risk my child dying from a preventale desise.
Many ppl have stated that there is no proven link between the MMR immunization and autism, this is correct but I do believe that more research into this needs to be done. I will also be trying to avoid processed foods for my bub and other things that could relate to the increase in autism.
From the information I have there is actually and increase in autism, I obviously can't state beyond reasonable doubt that this isn't just because of earlier and better diagnosis of the syndrome. The increase in autism isn't just kids that show symptoms from birth, its children that seem to be progressing through milestones normally until roughly 18 months.
Ok yes, I did do some of my research on the internet and in books, I was looking for pros and cons not just biased information. I also spoke to one of my good friends who is in his last year of uni studying to be a surgeon. I believe that his information is more recently researched than a doctor that has been practicing for a wile and also he isn't tainted by the offer of money and rewards from the government and pharmaceutical companies. He is also unsure weather or not immunization is the right way to go.
Its good to see what everyone else is doing and I respect every parents right to make there own decision. Its a tough decision and those that choose not to immunize obviously don't take it lightly.
