Hi
We use a TAAV vaporiser.
There is no problem with using a vaporiser, it does the same as a humidifer in that it puts moisture in the air and creates steam which is what assists with unblocking noses and with coughing.
I think Aimees Dr was concerned about using Vicks inhalant in the vaporiser BUT its not clear from her post what the issue is.
I'm interested in what the actual reasons are that the Dr gave but in the meantime there is no evidence or information that you should not use Vicks. The baby balsalm is safe for children up to 5 years, the adult product should not be used on children under 5 years. Neither should be put on the face or in the nose, if you follow the directions its fine and its a product I'd say is in every Aussie household. If there was a problem then it wouldnt be available to purchase and I'd reckon there'd be a huge story on it in the media given what an every day product it is.
The doctor told me that Vicks has been banned and is no longer used in the States, and he said that it will only be a matter of months until this happens in Aus. Also as PP mentioned, he said that it can mask the symptoms and clog up the mucus. I use the Eucky bear on bub currently, but he has said to stop this also! It's is so hard, when we get told so many different things. Also different ideas from different doctors too. I think I will just try using steam (humidifier).
Sorry for being unclear, hope this is better. THere is another similar post which has a link to the article about vicks, but that doesn't back up what my dr said, so I guess its up to individuals to decide
