5 month old with eczema Rss

Hi Ladys

My boy has eczema all over his body, Arms , legs ,face, scalp , trunk , back . Iv just changed his formula from a regular Karicare formula to the Karicare HA gold.. Its been 2 days..
Has anyone else had any luck with this formula in helping with eczema.

Hes only on Formula, and i use soap substitute ( Aquarius cream ) in and out of bath. and his clothes are washed in Eco Store HA washing powder.

UPDATED...

I have taken him of the cows milk formula and now on goats milk.
Anyone using goats milk formula that has helped with eczema.... also using probiotics in his milk and flax seed oil.

hopefully these will help

No longer useing Aqueous cream..

Thanks grin

Proud mum of 2 boys
4 year old and a 5 month old

My little dd who is 4.5 months old has it pretty bad...we got sent to see a ped and he was great he did put me on a steroid cream and also some stuff called dermeze I started using a cream also from a brand called michaels, the ped told me also to smoother her in the dermeze and wet a grow suit in hot water but not to hot to burn and then wrap her body in cling wrap not head...lol Im just keeping trying to keep the moisture in. we havnt changed formula yet until our next visit to see how she is going. also I did ask about changing washing powder and he said no just use extra rinse cycle.

u can get the dermeze over the counter big tub

Hi,
My son went through the same thing. He is almost 3.5 years old and the best thing that has worked for him is a product called Billy Goat Soap. I absolutely swear by it! You can buy bar of soaps or pump packs - not very expensive, around $12.95, depending on where you get it from. You can buy a moisturising cream as well but I just use sorbelene. I tried everything on him and hated using steriod creams as they can ruin skin pigmentation over prolonged use. Billy goat soap is completely natural! He has not had any eczema anywhere since I started using it, which has now been 1 year. Worth a try anyway.
Good luck,
Hay guys

Yeh iv used the steroid creams 2 tubes , its really just a quick fix without really sorting out the root of the problem and the eczema just comes back so no more of that.

I really think its the formula as everything else im doing is all natural.
I think i have to wait a month to see any results from the change of formula, im hopeing the Karicare HA will help.

just got some Epsom salts for his bath, sorbolene cream and Essenchi Liquorice cream

Any good reviews for these products

thanks

It says at the bottom of the screen that they are Oz and NZ based, so you should be able to get delivery. I have had no problems with this company. They have been excellent.

They always offer free delivery and promotions..the last one 15% off.

I am now 27 years old and suffered chronic eczema from when I was a baby until about 18 yrs old and just get random bouts of it from then until now.
There are so many factors involved with eczema- I have it paired with Asthma which is fairly common and also particular allergies.
Its especially hard for parents (I know what mine went through for so many years) and the children, its a nasty thing to have and what works for some people may not work for others.
I spent every year of my life seeing paeds, specialists, dermatologists, chinese herbalists, in and out of hospital, a million different lotions and potions and so on. Many trips to different cities to see different people and thousands and thousands of $$ spent and my body would let something work for about 2 weeks and then build up an immunity to it.

Cortisone creams are a quick fix but thin the skin after prolonged use so not the best option. My mum used to have to bind my hands together at night so I wouldn't scratch as I would do it in my sleep and tear my skin apart until it bled and weeped constantly.
What I have always found for me was it came back to diet- no dairy, no sugar, be careful of food colourings, no to certain nuts, no citrus fruits etc etc etc...I could go on forever. Mum kept my eating very clean and free of additives- no jar baby food, she used all fresh vegetables and fruit etc. My advice would be to consult someone for some allergy testing, then see a dietician or naturopath for a diet plan. Try and use natural products as much as possible- I make my own now as I cannot use most from the shops even though they 'claim' to be all natural. The one place I can use things from is the Perfect Potion and some of their skin soothe repair creams and essential oil blends work for me.

I wish you all the best and really hope its only a small case of infantile eczema (one of my little sisters had this-was allergic to dairy and sesame seeds) and does not carry on into the years. If it does as a parent you need to brace yourself for school years as I was majorly teased through primary school about my eczema and would want to wear tracksuits in summer to cover it up, kids can be so cruel. Confidence is the key for an eczema sufferer and thats the lucky path my mum taught me to go down and I never blinked an eyelid from then on. I found when I turned 18 I decided I had enough with all the creams etc and stopped using everything and just stuck to good diet and my eczema started to disappear.
Now I am pregnant with my first and I hope to god my little one does not have to experience what I went through. Best wishes!

p.s. NEVER use sorbolene cream no matter what doctors tell you- they used to try and get me to use it and its awful for eczema. Creams and moisturisers with no petrochemicals in them.

Hi thankyou for your story , I have just started using the sorbolene cream , what issues did you have with it ...
What do you think of the Aquarius cream usually given by doctors for washing and moisture. My son is only 5 months and isnt eating any solids besides fruit all he has is the HA formula and moisturise after his bath so thers not a big list of things..Being hes so young i think it is called infantile eczema hopefully he will grow out of it.My first son who is 4 never had as much as a nappy rash all his life with the most perfect skin.I had eczema on my hand all my life im 31 till 2 years ago i went 2 a doc who tested my skin and found i was allergic to the perfume in soaps and cleaning products so iv been clear since then.

Its the luck of the draw as to whether or not bubs will get any allergy related problems All the best hun ..

Sorbolene cream...check out this site...just one example http://www.lookingforalternatives.com.au/clandestine-sorbolene/ Please do your son a favour and dont use it. Its such a horrible product and I can totally relate to this article...one of many I have read! I have also studied aromatherapy and we did study into different products and what they contain. Scary! Aqueous cream I found had the same effect- my mum could never understand why. I have always been a swimmer and waterpolo player so in and out of the pool constantly, mum always tried to get me to use the aqueous and I hated it.
As you say everyone is different, sounds like you have a very simple case at present, I hope it continues to be that way. I know everyone has opinions but I am just speaking from very real experience. Thanks!

Thanks for that il have a read , is there any moisturiser you can recommend that is easily accessible, His skin does go red when i apply the cream , is that just the eczema and normal or is it the cream irritating the skin, its so hard to tell.

Thanks smile

could it be an allergy to the cows milk protein in the formula?

when i was a child and my mother weaned, i was put on a cows milk formula. it was fine for a couple of months but then i started to develop eczema quite bad.. my mothers doctor diagnosed it as a cows milk allergy and i was put on a soy formula, which cleared up my eczema within a fortnight..

i have also experienced this with my son also, and the soy formula basically cleared up his eczema almost overnight...

hope this helps smile xo
Try a brand called Moo Goo, they have a whole rang of products that work really well and their eczema one works really well

I have heard of this can you get it in NZ ? ill look it up

thanks again

My sister and I suffered from eczema since children it also turned out most of the stuff given to us by doctors made it worse in the long term than better, so when I had my daughter I was very careful with what i use, for bathing only use eco store shampoo, and lavender oil in the bath water, we have also found that using oil rather than creams works well, just straight olive oil or you can get blends from health shops with celendula etc. Also watch ya washing powder.

All the best with the battles!
In regards to Moisturisers simple vegetable oils are great- olive oil is fabulous and you dont need much. Just make sure you give a patch test first so baby does not react to them.
I really like the oil blends you can get from Perfect Poition...the soothe blend is great which has german chamomile, lavender, neroli and calendula. Just make sure the baby has no contraindications for those oils as sometimes essential oils can have different effects on different medical conditions (the staff there are great and can help you out and they have an online shop www.perfectpotion.com.au).

Other great oils for skin:
Geranium- Has excellent astringent and haemostatic properties which make it useful for treating wounds and bruises. It is recommended for its anti-inflammatory properties for conditions such as eczema and psoriasis and is used for treating acne. (The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy- Salvatore Battaglia)

Jojoba Oil- beneficial in the treatment of certain dry scalp and skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema. Its ideal for use in cosmetics because of its molecular stability and its natural moisturising and healing properties. (Battaglia)

*I would consult a fully qualified Aromatherapist (Diploma of Aromatherapy- and registered with the association) on usage and dilutions of straight essential oils as not all can be put straight onto the skin, sometimes have to be blended with carrier oils for example apricot kernel oil, almond oil etc.

I hope this helps a little more. Natural alternatives are never given enough credit. I come from a very medical family of doctors and nurses and studied nursing myself and also a cert IV in aromatherapy so I can see both sides but sometimes they need to complement each other a lot more.

As someone above said dairy can be an issue so perhaps try a goat milk based or soy formula (I am not keen on soy) and if you are breastfeeding you have to watch your diet also as it goes through to little one.

Hi

I totally agree with the natural alternatives so im starting to put small drops of flax seed oil in his bath aswell as in his bottle as i dont bath him in anything but water at the mo.I have just swapped to goats milk and am putting ethical nutrients pro biotics in his milk..

Fingers crossed surly this must help

Thanks smile

Hi

I was useing Aqueous cream from the doc for ages till i read so many bad things about it Eak ..And docs just proscribe steroid creams aswell..that is so annoying ..... Hello what about the root of the problem...

I agree, eco store is good but im not sure about all the lavender etc i think it may be to potent for his skin as i have the whole range of every product they have from laundry powder, oil, wash , soap , balm, shampoo, body wash,, but am just not sure about it still because i though it might be stinging his skin. The nappy balm is great because its all natural with no lavender etc..so i use that on him to moisturize .

And agree about the oil , now im trying flax seed in his bath and milk..Oh and iv just changed to goats milk, hopefully this will help..

Summers on its way and i dread the heat will just make this worse..
so desperate to sort it asap

Thanks for your ideas smile

Hi
I can help you with the excema.
Private message me.

Stop suffering with it.

Hi I'm hoping the gOats milk formula has worked for u as its is working really well with my 5 mth old!!!! I'm also using a goats milk moisturizer and he is great I just bath him in water with no soaps and only Luke warm do I don't agrivate it!!!
I havn't read the other posts here, but the best thing we found for our son was a solution called Pinetarsol. (is used to stop inflammation of chickenpoxes etc too). Anyway you wipe the lotion on affected skin, leave for about 5 minutes then wash off. Reduces itching and redness. We also moisturised several times a day with aveneo soothing relied moisture cream. These 2 things dramatically reduced our sons ezcema (Biggest help was the pinetarsol). Talk to you family GP (doctor) too. He gave us the pinetarsol on prescription so was free. Otherwise can purchase from any pharmacy.
I was just wondering that if the goats milk and every thing worked i have just been told to do the same thing for me 11 week old and i have heard mixed things and im so over all this changing formula, all my creams work great but the doc still wants us to change formula and it is very xxx and really wanted to know how things went for u

Hi, I have a 20 month old and he has had eczema since he was about 5 weeks old. I didnt think much of it as I had sensitive skin when I was little and still do. I stopped using the johnsons baby lavender wash and lotion and it went away. I only thought of that as I am allergic to lavender soaps. After Time it came back, especially in summer. I tried everything to settle it down and get rid of it but nothing was working so I eventually went to the doctor. I found out that it was the washing detergent I was using, I have used it for the past 2 1/2 years and never had a problem but as a babies skin is so delicate it was so harsh. I was using EARTH washing detergent and I am BEGGING everyone NOT TO USE IT on any children up to the age of about 10. It is good for the environment but NOT ON SKIN. My doctor informed me that it has plant extracts in the ingredients and that is associated with hayfever (pollens, grass etc). She told me to try and find a detergent that did not have anything to do with plants. I went home and researched every single ingredient in EARTH and was pretty shocked at all the chemicals in it, and they say it's "organic" and helpful for the environment. Ha!

I went to the supermarket and found only TWO detergents/powder that has NO plants extracts. I recommend to all of you mums the following two:

PURITY sensitive detergent 1.25L. ( blue bottle with a baby on the front) It is plant derived but I have researched this product and have been using it for the past 6 months and my sons skin has never been better! It is cheap too, about $4 per bottle so I stock up.

OMO small & mighty powder. It only has FOUR ingredients and have also researched this product and never had a problem.

Also if you like fabric softener I have used COLES sensitive almond milk and that has been so so gentle on his clothes and linen, but still only use it every now and then.

Also look out for any PLANT ingredients in any lotions you use. I was using gaia products but got told that's a MASSIVE no no as it's organic and the ingredients are from all sorts of plants etc. That also made a huge difference.

I use a couple of prescribed creams, one is cortic for face And flexures (creases and in rolls) & antroqouril which is for the body when it's bad, pinetarsol or QV in the bath and Nyal eczema cream for all over after a bath. These have worked wonders for me.

I hope this helps anyone who is struggling with this problem as you cannot cure eczema only prevent it. Also if you have carpet get it shampooed regularly or any mats in you house and wash blankets and linen regularly as dust mites can also cause itchiness.

This was the THIRD doctor I went to to try and find something that works, so if you need to, get a second or third opinion, it helped me alot!

I also use goats milk or sheeps milk soap, you can get the goats milk soap in a pack of two from Chemmart chemists. It does wonders an can be used from head to toe. I also just had to shave (wince) my sons head because he was getting so sweaty and itchy and pulling his hair out. He had so many little scabs from scratching so much. His head has cleared up
and hasn't looked better.

You can also buy an antihistamine suspension for over 2 year olds if all they do is scratch. My doctor recommended it to me and I have gotten two opinions from pharmacists about giving it to my son who is younger then 2. It doesn't do any harm to them. That has worked alot with stopping my son from scratching, and he also suffers from hayfever so it also prevents that from flaring up in warmer months.

I hope this helps anyone having trouble. It has taken me nearly 2 years to get on top of it and now I can finally manage it.

Also keep your baby cool. Dress and wrap in cotton. Use cotton sheets and don't use plastic mattress protectors. Try to prevent sweating as much as you can.
My doctor also told me to dress my son in a cotton jump suit which is damp or wet. This keeps your baby/child cool and also they can't feel if they are sweating so it doesn't get itchy and they don't scratch. I have tried that and it's unbelievable! It works! I tried this over the 40 degree heatwave we had here in Adelaide a few weeks ago and he didn't scratch once! I bathed him in a cool bath and smothered him in his creams and put the suit on wet. The suit did dry out a fair bit before bed so I didn't mind the sheets getting damp a little. I tried it at night a few times but he must not have liked being a bit damp so did it in the day and being in air con helped alot.

I hope this helps!
