Distressed during bottle Rss

Hi everyone
My 6 week old gets distressed during her bottle.
She often cries, tenses up and pushes out the bottle.
I changed teats as I thought it might be due to the fact that the flow was too fast but she is still doing it.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Has she always been bottle fed? Has she always gotten distressed with the bottle?
HI THERE

Yes at 6 weeks my little girl did the exact same. Is it expressed milk in the bottle? or formula?

With mine, she was breast and bottle fed with expressed milk. She went through a massive growth spurt at 6 weeks and just started refusing the bottle. Basically saying 'why should i suck on a teat when ive got mums boobs on tap?!' LOL!

Hope you get through it, you just need to find your own rhythm. smile
Hey Lami

My 5 week old was doing the same. Like you i thought it was the teats but changing them didn't work. We were told by midwife to stop him more often and burp more during the bottle. This meant stopping him up to 5 times to burp. This worked very well for us. This was two weeks ago and he now drinks over half his bottle, has one burp and then finishes the rest and burps again.

Hope this helps and that everything else is going well with your new bubs smile
She is on formula and we burp her at least 4 or more times during bottle.
I am taking her to the doctor today as I think it may be silent reflux??
What does everyone else think?
My midwife gave me this list on silent reflux if it helps smile

Symptoms of silent reflux in infants
Your baby may exhibit only some of these symptoms:

-sour breath, wet sounding burps
-persistent or chronic cough
-frequent hiccups
-sudden burst of painful crying
-painful wakeups from sleep or poor sleeping habits
-poor feeding habits, possible feeding aversions
-neck or back arching during or after feeding
-excessive fussiness, crying or colic
-demands to be carried constantly

Anastasia has most of these and yesterday was put on Zantac by the doctor.. So far not much difference but I am assuming it takes a few days to work?
It sounds simply like wind. Both of my children were sensitive to burps in their tummies while feeding and wouldn't continue until the burp is up. Infacol mixed in with the milk or given before a feed should help.

I am not quite sure but like anything the longer you take it the more progress you should see. Hang in there.
Have you thought about maybe changing to a different formula? One specifically designed for a windy baby? I know the chemists here in NZ have some, not sure where you are located. Might be worth trying. A friend of mine swears by Novalac.
WOW I am so glad I have joined this site.. This is the first thread I have read and it is so helpful smile
Firstly I sympathise with you as our son (now 20mths) had bad reflux and it was hell for 5 months until he started solids. (We eneded up on a vegetable thicker which did help a little.
Having our little girl 6 weeks ago I guess I was complacent and thought I knew what to look for. BUT our little girl is having EXACTLY the same problems while feeding over this last week. I was about to stop the Inner Health Plus for kids that I had started her on (as recommended for C section babies)as it seemed to coincide with when the problems started. HOWEVER I can not tell you how appreciative I am that mummy22+1 posted the 'Silent reflux' symptons, our princess has ALL of these.
I will now seek professional advice in an attempt to eliminate or at least reduce the symptons.
Thanks so very much, this thread has saved my sanity as my hubby is a FIFO worker and takes off for the first time tomorrow morning for a week and I will be left with a teething boy and very unsettled girl.
Again many mnay thanks xx
