That will snip it for him..as his isn't as severe as others..but its still pretty obvious..Im worried about his speech when he gets older..I've heard that the procedure for getting the tongue ties snipped is better the younger they are..like before 12 weeks ..I'm finding it hard o find a dr in Sydney that will do it for me..does anyone know of a dr that I can asked to be referred to...

I am tongue tied, it doesn't affect my speech and I was breastfed as a child with no problems. If doctors have said its not severe and its not affecting his feeding then they are probably thinking all will be fine. Obviously mine is not severe either.
The only thing I've found is that I can't stick my tongue out very far, but that doesnt affect my life in any way so its all good! smile

My 15 month old is tongue tied. The hospital said that they used to just snip it as newborns but that is now not usually done. It is better to wait to see how the child's speech develops. In most cases, there will be no problem. If there is an issue, the procedure can be done when they are older. My son appears to be developing pretty normally. He is obviously still very young but he can already say heaps of words. Just have to see how it goes.
Oh... I am also tongue tied with no speech problems!! I can also touch my nose with my tongue laugh

My DD was tongue tied. I had it corrected when she was 2 weeks old. I hated the thought of it, but she was not able to extend her tongue beyond her lower lip, so it was pretty severe. She was still feeding and putting on weight, although she did and still does click while she's feeding and often nipple feeds rather than breastfeeding.
I chose to not wait and find out if it would cause a problem with spech development and eating. I have one child having speech therapy - I didn't want that for DD.
The GP who performed the procedure was recommended by my child health nurse. Maybe ask yours or your midwife for a recommendation.

Two of mine had fairly severe tongue tie. They didn't have any more feeding issues than my bub who didn't have it. Doc said to wait and see how things were going at 6 months as then they can use better pain relief if they do it. Also, you can tell if they are having problems with food. If they can get their tongue past their bottom lip by then then they shouldn't have problems with food or oral hygeine. If they don't have problems with food or feeding then they are unlikely to have speech issues (that's what the speech therapist said).
For both my bubs the tongue tie was no longer noticable and way back by around 9 months. Not sure if they tore a bit themselves or if it stretched or if it just grew out (the tongue grows from the tip). Anyway, it is definitely not an issue or noticable and they can stick their tongue out almost as far as the next kid. Definitely no probs with ice-creams or speech.
IMO, if it isn't severe I wouldn't worry yet but it is up to you.

hello,
im not much help with a doctor for you. but i thought you may like to hear anyone in similar positions. my 2 year old was tongue tied, it was noticable in the sense that when he poked his tongue out it was a heart shape. and i also could not bf him it was so painful. we went to doctors from him being a few weeks old up until a year old, every doctor told us diferent things some saying wait until he is 4 years old others said its too late its done when newborn. i got very demanding and finally got refered to a surgion and he had it cut when he was 18months old. it wasnt very nice he was in hospital for the day and put to sleep and in a lot of pain afterwards. if i ever had another child tongue tied id keep looking for a surgion until i ran out of options. i saw that a lady above my comment is t.tied and has no problems, thats really good and if its only minor i wouldnt worry so much but my sons was definetly strong lol. good luck to you and bub!

If it is not completely visible and more than one GP or Paed has said it's ok, I would be inclined to agree. If you haven't seen a Paed yet, definitely go see one and get their opinion. Have you spoken to your maternal and child health nurse about it?
My DS has a mild tongue tie. It's a little odd, causes his tongue to do some wacky bendy stuff and YES we did have trouble breastfeeding and it was painful at times (we kept going until he was 9 and a half months).
He does often sit with his tongue at the front of his mouth when concentrating and you can see a very slight heart shape.
He is an absolute chatterbox now (although no words just baby talk) and has no problems eating other food or drinking from a cup or straw.
In the end it is your child and if your gut says do it, then I would research it further for sure.
