Silent Reflux? Rss

Our DD has always been quite 'windy' but it seems to have gotten worse! I always get s few burps out of her after breastfeeding. She is now 14 weeks and I have just taken her to the doctor to see if maybe it is something else. He said 'it could be' reflux and prescribed Nexium and I'm just wondering if anyone else has used this although I'm still not convinced it is reflux.
She doesn't spit up alot and doesn't seem bothered by regurgiation of milk although I can see that she is re-swallowing up to an hour after a feed. She dribbles alot, sucks on her hands and is in a lot of pain at nights (although not always!)and occasionally (at night after her bath) when lying on her change table will scream! Tonight she even cried and looked in pain in the bath which has never happened. Have been giving her Infant Friend at times when shes unsettled but tonight have tried the Nexium for the first time.
So is it gas or reflux?
Can you give Infant Friend if she has had Nexium earlier in the night?
Hi there, Our 5 1/2mth DD1 has just been diagnosed with silent reflux, But our BHN & GP both suggested trying a couple of other things before Nexium, Zantac etc... We have elevated her cot so that her body is on a slight slope.. And are also now using a specific reflux formula called Novalac Reflux & the difference is amazing!! She isnt screaming & arching constantly.. for a while she was only sleeping in 90min cycles!! The other thing we do is keep her upright after feeding & we use Infacol with most feeds too.. She is also still mainly BF but has 3 bottles of formula, the one before bed does wonders for her!! Hope this might help a little bit grin
Thanks for your reply. We had been using infacol before each feed but then she seemed to get a bit 'backed up' and didn't poo for a few days, although I know this is common for BF babies, she just seemed very uncomfortable. Also have been using Infant Friend but not all the time as it loses its effect. Have just got some Colic Calm to try and this says it can help with reflux and wind so hopefully it will help with whatever it is that is bothering her little belly. I have read so much on Colic, Reflux and Wind and really doing my head in trying to work out how to help her when she's crying. It is so frustrating when you can't help.
What made you think your daughter had reflux? Did it start early or only develop later?
Hi there, DD1 was only diagnosed about aweek & a half ago with silent reflux, But looking back she has had it since birth, (Im dealing with major guilt issues over it atm!!), Im a 1st time Mummy & was told she was "just teething" or it was "just wind" but amongst other things she would BF & pull away screaming, & her belly always sounded really "gurgly" (which I thought was hunger), She would cry and arch her back & pull her legs up towards her belly, & she would claw her tummy too, But nighttime was the worst, she would lie in bed & just cry (even in her sleep), the only way i could get her to sleep was to BF her then sit up with her lying on my chest to sleep... We thought it was because we had co-slept with her since birth & she had gone into her cot but as it turns out that was the best thing for her, (her safe sleeper in our bed was on a slight tilt downwards so we hadnt noticed it as much), At one stage it was so bad I would sleep all night sitting up with her, In the finish it was my BHN who picked it up!! But it has been a good few days now & the differance in her is incredible... Because she is still mainly BF I give her about 3 or 4 bottles of the Novalac (especially just before bed)- it has cornstarch in it which thickens in her belly so it cant come back up & the cot is tilted- a housebrick under each wheel at the top is the perfect height for her, also (this may be TMI) her poop was a horrible black-green colour (a bit like meconium) and she was badly constipated but since the changes she is pooping normally, & even with Infacol she hasnt been constipated, She has stopped screaming too, and she is just an all round different bubba again!! Also a warm wheat pack on her tummy really seems to help too, I havent heard of Colic Calm, but let me know how you go with it!! Hope this makes sense, I had dental surgery last week & am still in agony & sleep deprived lol
sorry, also forgot to add, warm baths work wonders too, if DDs reflux is really bad she will look at the bath & cry too, so we pop her in (I also swear by J&J bedtime bath) and she relaxes her belly, hope all this info helps a bit grin If you need to chat just add me as a friend/ or PM me
I had similar case with my baby at 5 weeks, was actually over supply of milk. Realised when she was just about chocking during a feed. Basically she was getting lots of air while she was feeding. She had all the same symptoms, wind, arching back etc.

A breastfeeding website recommended i feed her with her on top and me laying down so she has control of how much goes in her mouth... she is now like a new baby slept for 8 hours 2 nights ago for first time ever.

Also if she wanted to be fed I was to feed her from same side if was within 3 hours of last feed. (Because I had too much milk she was getting all thin milk which goes stright through and not getting the cream to fill her up she wanted to feed more but used to throw it back up). By doing this my supply has settled as other breast was getting full and reducing supply.

Could be silent reflux still just thought I would put what happened to me out there.
