Congenital Hypothyroidism Rss

Hello everyone.

I was writing to see if I could connect with any other parents with children born with this condition, congenital hypothyroidism.

Our little girl Kiani Frances was born September 23rd 2011, 15 days overdue, weighing 8pd 6oz

She is doing really well now after a bit of a rough start

I would really like to chat with anyone else in the same position as us!

Hi,

I was also looking for other parents out there who are dealing with this condition.

Our girl Joanna Dawne was born 28th November 2011, 18 days overdue weighing 9pd 4oz.

The hypothyroidism was picked up with the heel prick test and confirmed when she was 11 days old.

Our problem at the moment is getting the thyroxine syrup into her, she is now old enough to know what is happening and will close her mouth and when we do get the medicine in she spits it out again.

Have you had to deal with this and if you have, do you have any tricks that worked for you? (I even gave it to her when she was asleep once this week!)

I am also over smug looking parents that say they are pleased they are over 'those days' when they did not have to deal with giving their baby daily medication!

hi

i also have a bubs with this condition. in regards to meds. i give them at the same time everyday and on an empty tummy. which helps a lot as it has now become routine. do you use suspension medicene (liquid) or tablets crushed. i use liquid and my bubs likes it.
how are your girls levels?? do you know what the norm is??

Hi

We too have just found ourselves looking after a child with congenital hypothyroidism. We have only just started medication two days ago - did you notice any side effects when you started your child? We would be keen on talking to other parents as well - there is limited information out there.

Looking forward to hearing back
