UTI's in babies
DD is 16 months old, born at 25 weeks gestation. The last few days she has been shocking, not sleeping during the night, grizzling/ moaning/ crying/ screaming etc which is totally unlike her! She's so tired, she's falling asleep everywhere, and will even sit and sleep on my knee which is a miracle for her- she hates to be cuddled or touched too much. She's filling a nappy (wet) within a couple of hours, and by the morning she's basically swimming in it! What can I do? Does it sound like a UTI? This is my first, so i'm really unsure! TIA smile
She teething? Gettng the rest of her teeth? My 17 month olds been out of sorts too because she's her four last teeth pushing through.
The nappy doesn't sound odd to me personally because my babe pees like a trooper too. Nothing unusual about that.

A temp is common in a UTI. Does she feel hot? Plus have any of her wet nappies smelt really bad?
Sounds like she is fighting something but that could be a virus too?

hi my DD had a bad uti at 8mths. Often there will be a temperature but not always and there can be no other signs.
I recomend if shes not herself taking her to get checked out, they will give you a bag to put on her to get a urine sample and should be able to dip a stick in it to check straight away then if positive they will send off to lab to confirm what bug it is as there are different ones that can cause uti's
I wouldnt leave it if you think it may be this, my daughters got so bad because the GP didnt check for a uti even though I took her back 4 times in about 5 days (and we saw teh same doctor each time she happend to be on afterhours and weekend aswell) that she ended up in hospital for 2 nights with IV antibiotics, 1 week strong oral antibiotics, 3 month low dose antibiotics then had to have a kidney ultrasound done about 2 mths after the inital infection. Had it been picked up earlier she would have just had a week of oral antibiotics at home and thats it.
They can get bad really quickly so if in doubt get checked out, it may not be this but better to be safe than sorry.
good luck smile

When My DD was 6 months she got a UTI. She was out of sorts and not herself. the big thing that made me go to the dr was she seemed to be power chucking after every feed. I would take her to the Dr just to rule it out.

Hi,
My daughter is almost one and since the age of 2months has been getting uti's at 8months she was dignosed with Kidney reflux,
Signs of utis for us include-
Vommiting
Not wanting food
Nappy Rash
HIGH TEMPS
Larghic
of balance when crawling or sitting
Smelly urine or nappy
Please note sometimes a full nappy could just be due to teething or cause a bub had extra fluids that day.
