Allergy to Farex Baby Rice??? Rss

Hi again,

I posted earlier about a rash my daughter had developed. Red, hot and sort of blotchy but not raised, or scaly or prickly.

It Started on her tummy and chest then spread to around her neck, under her chin, behind her ears and under and around her arm pits. Its somewhat dispersed a bit now and there are some little red splodges with a slightly raised whiteish centre. Its still a full rash around her armpits and nick/chin- that bit looks like sunburn.

Anyway as I mentioned earlier I rang the nurse and she wasnt too concerned. I told her how we had started solids the night prior and she was sure it couldnt be that.

However as the day has gone on and it got worse (she had more Farex this morning) I googled 'Allergy to Farex' and got quite a few results- some of them sound exactly like DD's rash.

So has anyone experienced a reaction like this to Farex baby rice???

Sorry if youve already read my earlier post and Im repeating myself smile
No rash but DS had tummy problems from Farex.
why don't you stop feeding the Farex? If you have a look at the ingredients on the pack you will find they add all sorts of stuff to it. I ended up cooking rice with lots of water and blending it. That way I knew exactly what was in it. Another option is to buy ground rice from the supermarket - on the box it says to add formula or b'milk and sugar and cook for 3-4 minutes. I left out the sugar.

the options above are not as convenient as the Farex but I think they are better for bubs!
Thanks, yes have definately stopped giving her that for now and will see what happens. Its not bothering her too much but doesnt look nice at all.

I never realised how much stuff was in Farex- sunflower oil, wth??? I just got the one that was on special! May try it again in a few days to see if there is another reaction and go from there.
you don't have to use farex at all when starting solids, you can start with veg, just use small amounts. I think they say to use farex first is because its super bland and contains iron which babies start to have less of once they reach 6months. I agree with PP if you want something bland like farex then you can just do plain rice - I tried it with brown rice to bulk up some of the puree fruit and veg.

Just a quick update in case anyone cares. Had DD at the Dr this morning, definately an allergic rash probably caaused by the baby rice (maybe not the actual rice but one of the other bi-ingredients). She has said to try a little bit again in 2 to 3 weeks just to be sure.

I'm hoping this isnt the start of thing to come! gasp
