Tongue Tie Rss

My 4mth old has tongue tie and have been told it needs to be snipped, mind you it was not picked up by 2 doctors and now apparently no one in this silly town can do it and we have to drive 5hrs to another hospital for it to be done. I have read and have been told that dentists can do it so really what I am asking is have your little ones had their's done if so what happened how long etc and roughly what was the charge?

Thanks in advance roll eyes
Hey, not sure if this will help but-
My DS had a tongue tie, it was not so bad that he couldn't BF but bad enough that it did a LOT of damage to me! So I had to snipped when he was 5 days old. A lactation consultant did it and because it was in a public hospital it was free. It was just a snip with some scissors. No pain, no blood.

However with an older baby is can be complicated as there are nerve endings in the tie so from what I understand they need to use a local anesthetic and then do the cut. I guess it would depend on where you got it done as to whether or not it would cost you. I'm surprised that they don't do it at your local hospital? It seemed like a simple procedure. I have never heard of a dentist doing it though... might be worth a phone call?
Thanks miss B for the reply. I actually did a few phone calls and managed to find a dentist that does it for around $250. They also mentioned that if you go to the dr and see if you qualify for I think it was called epc or something (the dr would know) that it would be covered by medicare..

Thanks again for the reply. wink
