breastfed baby with thick poo Rss

My 4 month old is exclusively breast fed. She often goes for a few days and up to a week with out pooing, which is fine for her. She never has pain and when she does go it's normal yellow runny breastfed baby poo.

Today she was really having to put some effort in to poo (not straining) and it was quite thick like toothpaste. She didn't seem worried by it at all and a lot came out. She last pooed on Sat so was a few days worth.

I'm not worried that she isn't drinking enough as she still feeds 3 or 4hrly during the day and once overnight. She has plenty of wet nappies and is happy and sleeping normally.

Anyhoo just wondering if this is normal to be that consistency. My DD1 was the same but never this thick. Don't want her to get constipated but didn't think BF babies had any trouble with that.

Also i'm in Bris and it's been really hot/humid here so wondering if that's anything to do with it.I try to eat healthy and drink as much water as possible.

Sorry for the novel on my babies poo lol. smile any answers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My DD2 was exclusively breastfed. When she was 4 months old she didnt poop for about 2 weeks, and when she did go it was thick.

I was seeing our Health nurse alot at the time & she told me its fine. Each babies poop varies in consistancy & obviously with breastfed babies frequency can vary aswell. If there's any blood, mucous or it appears black, take her to the GP.
double.
my 3 and bit month old is the same heoften goes up to 10days with no poo and when he does its thick and there ALOT of it lol. he doesnt seem bothered either. as long as bubs doing wet nappies my MCHN told me not to be concerned about poo unless its actually causing them pain smile
Thanks ladies. I wasn't too concerned but nice to have some reassurance that she's normal .smile

Thick poo and infrequent bowel function = he is constipated.

The fact is, at all ages a person should be doing a bowel movement at least once every day. Infrequent/incomplete bowel function leads to autointoxication, which is a hidden cause of everything from skin problems and stomachaches to memory loss problems/anxiety to fatal illness.

Try all the baby juices, and the baby exercises - but keep the suppositories in stock and give her one if she's missed two days. (They're not "addictive" because they don't stimulate the intestine).
She was not constipated. Doctor told me that it was completely fine for a fully breastfed baby (having no solids) to only poo once a week or less. There is very little waste in breastmilk, there fore no poos.

She was not straining, distressed or in any discomfort so the doctor was not concerned. She is the happiest little bub around smile.

I won't be giving her juice or suppositories though.

I definately wouldnt be giving her juice or suppositories either. It might be a little thicker due to something different in your diet, because i know if i drink a bit of softdrink it makes dd2's extremely runny. I really dont think there is a 'normal' consistancy with breastfed baby poo.
Pebbly poo is constipation. Thick poo is fine. Her digestive system is just maturing and she's getting more out of her milk so, like you said, there's less waste smile
