Eczema :( Rss

My 12 week old has quite bad eczema on his chest and other places, he is trying to scratch it all the time and it is bothering him the poor wee guy sad I have tried sudocream and almond oil and weleda oil and it doesn't really work, oh the doc gave me aqueous cream but I tried it once and I think it caused a reaction so I can't use that anymore ( he has sensitive skin), any help would be apprieciated thanks smile
My dd also has eczema, but doctor said hers is pretty mild and under control, that's because I've bathed her in QV cream gentle wash plus QV bath oil, also applying QV cream on her few times a day.

My GP also recommended hydrocortisone 1%, you can get that over the counter. You can put it on his scalp everywhere you can see the redness or eczema (thin layer).

My dd is 5 months now, I still swaddle her although you can't really see eczema on her, but it comes and go. My Gp said unfortunately, she has really sensitive skin, might have to struggle up to 2 years old, finger cross will go away afterward, meantime that's all I've been doing.

Whenever I see the redness, I just put hydrocortisone (small amount only).
Or you can put mitten on, to avoid scratches, just be careful we don't want it to get infected.

My dd used to scratch a lot, she still does it now, but not as bad when I first found out.

Worth trying, so hope your ds get better soon, I know how you feel...

Have you changed your laundry liquid and baby lotions and all that to natural ones? My baby had it but it cleard up pretty quickly once i changed the brands i was using and used sudocream.I noticed she had an outbreak of it when she ate blueberries aswell so obviously i dont give her blueberries now.I get eczema but only if i have caffine or if i am really really angry sometimes it breaks out but not very bad.Maybe some type of food is causing it? goodluck
I use a dash of QV bath oil, and use the QV lotion. When it was really bad I used the lotion 3-4 times a day, now i only use it of a night.
I changed my washing liquid, i use the smallest amount of lux flakes which i soak clothes in for about 1/2 hour (have front load washing machine, cant use lux in machine) then i put in washing machine on risex2 cycle. i went through her wardrobe and washed everything, sheets and blankets included.
unfortunately it may be trial and error before you find what works for your baby. i really think the washing liquid was the best thing.
My GP also said that water is drying, so perhaps try bathing every second day but my DD loves a bath so much i didn't want to change that.
Aqueous cream should only be used as a wash not moisturiser, recent studies have shown it to cause more problems. Hydocortisone is a steriod which can be used. It worked for my oldest but not my youngest

Thanks everyone! I might try this QV cream, and maybe the hydrocortisone, I have brought so many creams and oils and I am on a tight budget so I can't afford to keep buying stuff sad Hopefully it isn't too expensive! Plunket also told me that the aveeno moisturiser is really good?
i know the feeling. its so sad to watch your lil one go through it. ive been to many doc's, skin scrappings, allegy testings. You have prob been told before but i hope i help as my lil man had it at 3mths of age and now is nearly clear of it all =).
I started with washing powder. 1) i use OMO sensitive. 2) no long baths only 5mins max as water is bad for eczema. 3) stopped all soaps. 4)Aveeno bathing and shampoo is in my eyes the best. 5)lotion "Alpha Keri" for constant body cream. 6) pat dry after bathing as rubbing scraps off the healing skin over the top of eczema. 7) Air time, my sons skin always looked better after being naked =) and they also love it. 8)humidity is the another as i live in the tropics but cool air keep it low.
im sorry if i have bored you but thats what work for me i have heaps me of lil tips if interested i hope i helped xxx good luck. your doin a great job
Aqueous cream didn't seem to help with my baby boy and he also seemed to react to it. Doctor then prescribed hyrdocortisone (only use for 7 days, then give their skin a break for 7 days before using again if needed), and also got HealthE Fatty cream which works really well as a moisturiser.

We only use half the amount of laundry powder (it's sensitive stuff too), and only bath him every two days. His eczema also comes and goes but it's a lot better than before.

He still scratches now and then, and it seems to wake him up at night which means more moisturising, but there's not much else we can do but hope he grows out of it.

And remember to trim those fingernails!
Thanks for all your suggestions guys! Will take them on board! Went to the doc yesterday in the end as it got really bad and he gave me the hydrocortizone cream and the emulsifying cream so we put a little bit of that on and spread the emulsifying cream all over his skin and this morning it has almost gone away just looks like dry skin! I will keep up with the emulsifying cream and only use the steroid cream if it gets really bad, also using lux flakes to wash his clothes in the hopes that that will help!
I've heard good things about a cream made in Melbourne, in David Hoskins pharmacy in Essendon. One girl in my mothers group is a pharmacist so she recommend it to those babies with eczema, and it works MIRACLES. You can call them up and they ship the order to you via post. The cream is frangrance free etc. Worth having it, I even used it on myself.

Good Luck !!!!!!
Hi I hope that your son gets better soon, I have a son that has eczema and has had it for 2 1/2 years, he was born with it and we have tried everything; we now go to the Royal Children’s Hospital every 3 months to see his specialist.
The best thing is to wet wrap him as it put the moisture back into the skin. We do this at night one layer of just damp wraps and then a layer of dry wraps with the creams under.
We have not slept a whole night for 2 1/2 years as he is always scratching and making himself bleed. I feel your pain it is very very hard. If there is any help that I can offer please ask.
Hi ladies, my eldest daughter(now 10 years old) has used mild cortizone creams from birth - not often but still so damaging, found awesome cream ahava produce from dead sea please do not waste your money on imatation dead sea products, not the same, in England they send serve sufferers to the spa/laboratory located in israle on the actual dead sea, to be treated and it heals them for long periods. My daughter has had two tubes over the past six years, and her skin is great, no patchy pigmentation. I buy from eBay can find in beauty salons - for mild cases use dermud sensitive hand cream, for bad cases use dermud enriched intensive foot cream. My daughter says if the skin is raw it can sting alittle but it definetly works. After 4 years of tests and cortizones and creams I was so pleased when I found ahava. I hope this helps. Best of luck.

Hi,

My DD3 is prone to eczema but we haven't had a flare up at all since I started using MooGoo. Its excellent, all natural and smells yummy too. It's available at most chemists and health food shops. I use the Eczema Balm on any red areas, the Bathwash each evening at bathtime and the Soothing Cream for daily use.

I had resorted to Hydrocortisone cream when DD3 was a newborn as her eczema got so bad and nothing else was working. But MooGoo is so much better and not harsh at all smile

oh oh try MooGoo (moogoo.com.au) they also have a facebook page it is all natiral and helps my flare ups and some people swear by it. they use all natural products I use it cos i have sensitive skin so its great!

please try it their milk was and msm cream will healp with the itchy... email them or ask ? on their facebook page they will be able to help you their customer service is spot on!

I have friends that have ordered it to New Zealand. I think it was about $10 postage via Airmail smile

Hi Bronnnn,
I totally understand where you are at. My DS is now 2.5yrs and has had eczema since 6 weeks old. Having been thru everything you have mentioned below - Aqeous, Fatty, Hydrocortisone etc, it only really kept things at bay for a short time. A trick I did find that helped, was to put the creams at every diaper change, so they are constantly getting moisturised. Finally, after 2.5years, I have found something that works, and does not cost too much. Don't have to use the steroid creams on their wee bodies anymore smile.
This is available in NZ, let me know if you want the details of where to get it. Totally worth it.
I can send you a sample of what I am using..
My Dd 13moths had eczema. We are using the hydrocordizone (sp) 1%. Have you tried pinetarsal as a soad substitute? Are you breastfeeding or formula? We use formula and changed to an 'HA' formula. We are using a Karicare formula 'Karicare Gold HA' I can only find it at countdown. Otherwise, what everyone else is suggesting is worth a try.
Moo goo didn't work for my DD's eczema (and it was an expensive lesson to learn!). The hydrocortizone cream got it under control and now nightly I apply Aveeno moisturiser which seems to keep it under control.

I also bought a filter for our shower head (she only uses the shower- not the bath) which takes out all the nasties and I think has helped her too.

Hydrocortizone creams have detrimental effects on internal organs later in life. There are alternatives that work and are inexpensive. I am grateful i have found them and regret not having done my research sooner. The skin is the biggest organ on the human body. It pays to treat it with the most gentle of creams/moisturisers/oils etc. I am almost through with an entire home detox and have not had any nasties since we commenced.I hope to have as many people experience the same results that we and thousands of others have done so and more importantly get back to sleeping a whole night without having to get up and settle a child that has been scratching. If the whole night has been slept through then generally the sight of the bedsheets in the morning can be unbearable to see. I have been there and will never get myself into such a situation again. Yes, people console themselves that the children grow out of it but why let the child suffer with it if it can be managed effectively without steroid creams??
Hi my dd has had exzema since 4 months and is now over 2. Before she was 1 I had tried all the creams and as I was breastfeeding we had also gone dairy free for a trial and cancelled out wheat and other food groups as suggested by a naturopath. Anyway went to royal children's for her egg allergy and because her ezcema was so bad they put her on a antibiotics, gave me cream hydro 1% and also recommended baths half full with half a cup of Bleach. I know it sounds crazy but for major infections it has really helped, I was concerned about my other child but they said its such a small amount . Anyway I have found thr best was is a combined
Method of moisturiser 3 times a day, Cortisone cream straight away when your see the red marks appear and the baths. If its really bad I would suggest a referral from your Gp. Hope this helps

After trying every natural remedy under the sun I was prepared to use the cream as a one off. It worked- I'm not overly concerned that one application will harm DD. I think people should be more concerned with the amount of crap absorbed by drinking, showering or bathing in unfiltered tap water.

My 12mo daughter gets eczema and my 5yo son used to as well. With both of them we used a non-soap wash like QV or Dermaveen, and an unscented lotion all over. We have both an OTC and prescription cream for my daughter, but we are also about to try Moo Goo. It's kind of pricey at almost $20 for the tube, but it's quite a large one and you don't need much.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my first baby when he was around 12 mo. Did all the same stuff that has been mentioned: changed washing powder (Dr recommended a cheaper brand without enzymes, less chance of dermatitis apparently), QV wash and cream, Aveeno products are also good and not too exxy, hydrocortisone etc. The trouble was once the itch started the little one just kept scratching his arms to the point of bleeding - it was awful! Problem was solved when we took drastic measures: Put on the medicated cream (can't remember what it was, something prescribed to heal the damaged skin), then slathered something oily over that (like lanolin) to soothe the immediate itchiness, then covered the whole area in bandages like a little mummy, then put on a longsleeved grosuit so his arms were really protected! We did this every night before bed and within a week his arms healed up and we soon had soft baby skin again. Hasn't happened again since washing powder changed (he is now 6 yo).
My daughter is 7, she has had eczema since birth. I use Ethical Nutrients Eczema Shield powder, a teaspoon in her milk in the morning. It tastes like nothing so she isn't fussed having it and also Dermalex cream, its cortisone free and putting on at night the flare ups are gone by morning. When she is having a bad flare up I have to use the prescription cortisone creams to get it back under control smile
Hello,
Lot of time i thought eczema is so common among young babies?
So what is the main reason for eczema?
Stroller Reviews 2012
I know this is a bit of a late post but I hope you might get something out of it. My son has had eczema since he was born. In a way I'm lucky as partner also has eczema.
I use cold power washing powder as its the only one they can use. You might need to try out a few to see what one doesn't react with your baby. If you cant find one I would wash clothes with washing powder than wash again with just water.
I also had trouble finding a cream that would work, in the end the doctor told us about this cream they make up at the pharmacy call 50% Emulsifying Ointment. It has worked wonders, looking at him you wouldn't know he had eczema. I started off applying it every time I changed his nappy and smothering after a bath, now I just apply a thin layer after a bath.
Also as your baby is so young, I would not be bathing more than two times a week unless really needed. As water dries out the skins. I wouldn't be using any soaps at this stage either. I agree with pat dry not rub.
As much as possible nudie time! Airing is great and they love it.
Last thing... If it gets too bad at time (waking up scratching until they bleed) there is Claratyne. Its non drowsy antihistamine that just takes away some of the itch so they can sleep but they do have to be 1 to have it. In the mean time I would keep the nails short and try mittens, if not socks (they seem to stay on better).
