help! 2 much vicks? Rss

Hi there
Am nearly at my wits end with my babys stuffy nose. That's all she has but its been 3 days and sucks!

She woke at 10pm choking and hardly breathing becoz of her blocked nose, so I syringed it with saline which she then threw up, and have lathered her bed and clothes with vicks baby balsam. Will this harm her at all? Iv also put a wee dab under her nose.

Have put onions under her bed (which did help a little...but not a lot) but first time with vicks...

Help!
Thanks!
How old is she?

If she under 2 i was told by a doctor to put it on their feet with socks on. Over 2 years old you only need a small amount to put on.

On my oldest i only put a tiny amount on his chest never under his nose. Plus with my youngest son i put less on him on him than i would my oldest. My youngest i put it on his feet
sorry making a few spelling errors. time for bed i think.

It should also say on the jar how much to put on.

thats is alot of vicks.. how old is your baby?
that is a lot of vicks. unsure

I would get rid of some of it. I know the stuff isn;t as strong, but try and imagine yourself having vicks everywhere you turn. A little bit is good, but after that it can hurt and make your eyes sting. I put it either on their singlet or on a flannel near them. on the feet with socks is good too. (great for adults!!) I think onions (although very good) might be too strong for your little one too. When mine are that bad, I usually sit up in bed and lay them on my chest to get them to sleep. Once they are off I pop them into their bed.
I hope she is over it soon, poor little thing. sad

That is vicks overload and it could be burning her eyes and skin.

Change her sheets and her clothes, you should only put a very small amount on her singlet if she's under 6 months and over then only a tiny bit on her chest - never ever on the face.

If she threw up after syringing her nose you have put too much saline up there, you need to be careful with that too and never do it after a feed as they will vomit.

You can elevate her cot mattress by putting a rolled up towell under one end (where her head is) and get a steam vapouriser for her room.

Have a look here http://www.vicks.com.au/baby-balsam.htm and see your GP for further advice.
My little one had the same issue at some point, I applied a small amount of baby balsam on her singlet which was under her sleep suit, so she couldn't touch it and rub it in her eyes. We also invested in a vicks vaporiser available at most chemists and placed that on in her room whenever she was becoming stuffy. You can also buy a solution that goes into the vaporiser that helps them breath easy too. Have you tried fess? Ask the chemist, they will know what's best for your little one.

I would take some away too and be very careful where you put it thought putting it on bubs clothes was safe until they rubbed their hand in it and then straight into the eye.

Another natural thing you could try is to peel a clove of garlic and then put it in a sock on bubs foot. its a natural antibiotic so can really help

good luck nothing worse then when you little bub is sick

Dp knows a old Italian farmer who swears by the garlic in the socks!! I always forget though when my kids are sick sad I agree with pp hun take some of the Vicks away have you tried a vaporizer?? The cold air at night makes things way worse and a vaporizer keeps the air not so cold and puts a light event of Vic in the air
also another thing we do - besides vicks on feet and a cut onion under the cot is fill your bathroom sink up with super hot water when your giving baby a bath then put vicks in that - there will be a bit of steam and the room will smell like vicks but for us it usually helps the nose before bed time.
and for the saline I was told to do 1ml up each nostril.
