Lactose Intolerance Rss

Hi Ladies,
For those of you who remember Ds and had quite a bit of trouble at the start because he did brown vomits, green poos and wasn't gaining weight. At the time we switched to formula and he started to gain again, they mentioned a lactose intolerance then but when when he was fine on formula they brushed it off.
Since he wa sonly 7weeks old then we thought nothing of runny poos.
At five and a half months he started on solids, still no solid poo's still not worried, then six months, then seven and we get worried, so sen doff some tests to make sure he hasn't got a tummy bug, he doesn't, he is processing food okay.
We get to Easter Sunday, I made blueberry pancakes for breakfast and that day and Mondayt we get sickly green water poop about 6 times each. Charles hasn't left the house in 5 weeks so hasn't been around other kids, so I pop him up to the dr and mention I am still worried about the poos.
She wants to try a no lactose for 2 weeks test =( I buy my formula in bulk (as many as I can every shop) so I never run out lol, so that was gutting.
But Mainly I wanna know is your child intolerant to lactose how did you find and when, how did it effect your life style
?

hey matey

my DS was lactose intollerant (& DD has a milk protein allergy - i am one lucky mummy... LOL), but we knew something wasnt right from early on & it was actually a nurse at the Karitane clinic that suggested to us that lactose may have been the problem - then we had him tested by the gp, which finally they accepted... ergh
but, like little charles, had aweful poos & screaming in pain all the time.. we were lucky with him that he was all good with soy milk, so no big deal to us & our lifestyle - there is way worse allergies to have to deal with than that. theyre are so many soy replacements, that it is no big deal.

good luck - it feels very overwhelming at first, but if you focus on the things that he can have instead of all the stuff that he cant, you will be fine & so will charles!
My son was colic and at 6 weeks old i changed him to soy formula and he was a diff baby instantly. I have never had him tested but i just knew something wasnt right. He is now 4 months old and i have tried to put him back on normal formula and he just vomits.

My lil guy was lactose intolarlant the easiest way to find out is just put the on delac formula and be careful what is in the food u give them for a week trial u can buy aptimal delact at wollies and chemists of there is an improvement make the switch u can get it on script once it's proven ( the trial is usually enough proof) there is a stool test that can also be done if ur doctor is picky about it. Then start re introducing lactose at about 12 months gradually. We didn't find out till 9 months old no one could work out why he wasn't gaining weight and had bowl issues (always constipated ) aparently it can go either way. But I'd say go for it he's now 20 months and just started cows milk with no problems
