How Many Nappies!!??? Rss

HI All,
So I am due in May and tryin to bulk buy as mch as I can because i am stopping work earlier due to sweling and blood pressure problems! Im blk buying can stuff, toilet paper everything lol...

Anyway my problem is how many nappies should i buy? there have been on lots of sales on lately so far I have 2 108 boxes of newborns, 2 boxes of 90 crawler and one pack of 32 (i think) infant..... do you think some more crawler ones would be worth getting??....I can exchange them at the local supermarket for another size if i have too many but i dnt want to go over board....but i do want to be organised and it will help when im not working.

with boyth my boys i never used more than the 108 newborn boxes, i would buy more infant and crawler, if u want bulk- are u in melb? u should definately go to costco great bulk bargains

Hi, I've got two boxes of the Snugglers Small size ("up to 8kgs").
I'm just starting with that and seeing how we go.
I have no memory of how many of what size DD and DS used. I did use Huggies with them, so probably started off with two boxes of newborns and then went up from there - I found Huggies were a snug fit and I never really stuck with their weight suggestions. As soon as nappies start to look/feel snug, I move up to the next size...

you are better off starting a savings account to put money in towards these things. I found with my kids that they didn't stay in newborn very long, and its also trial and error as to which nappies work best for your child. With DS Babylove were the best, but with DD Huggies are the only ones to keep it all contained!
Well DS was a pretty small bub but until 5 months old, we averaged 7+ nappies per day. Then between 5-15 months it was around 5-6 nappies per day. Now we're around 4-5 nappies per day (he's 2).

I think DS was in newborn nappies until around 3 months? (although don't quote me on that!!) he's in Toddler nappies now (10-15kg) and we go through a box every 2-3wks.
I agree with flappy!

There is so much wastage with your first. I gave away boxes of nappies. I also gave away 100 packets of pads (apparently I was going to bleed for 2 years straight lol). Oh and the newborn clothes. In the end I was just pulling of the tags putting him in them and taking a photo, just so he got some use of them. I also gave away 5 packets of breast pads, and a brand new tommee tippee breast pump cause I couldn't feed. So in the end I was giving everything away, and having to buy different stuff, cause things didn't turn out the way I had planned.

With my second, I brought one back of bulk newborn nappies, then went straight to infant. Used infants for a good couple of months. I brought 1 pack of fanny pads, 1 pack of breast pads, and about 10 jumpsuits, that was it.

Flappies suggestion of saving would be the best idea, to ensure you don't have too much wastage at a time where you can't afford it!

Good luck with it all.
Yep kinda agree with the others- they arnt in newborns long enough- i got through a box and a half (i was also using cloth nappies and had to go full disposable to use them up)

My DS has been in the crawler size for the longest period of time, so may have to stock up on that one- maybe another packet of infant, but you seem to have enough to last you a fair while.

You also dont know what size your baby is going to be! My daughter is 16 months old and STILL in crawlers. Buy a few of each but then put the money away.

It really all depends on the size of your baby.. i would just put the money away or a different idea if you have trouble saving is to buy some gift cards instead for somewhere that sell them if you can. Then when you need more you can grab a gift card and go get some.
My DS is 7 weeks old and still in newborn cause he has skinny waist and skinny legs.

All the other suggestions are good, we've always used heaps more of the infant size and you can't get them in bulk huggies (probably a marketing ploy!) so I would get them - do you know what you are having because huggies are gender specific other than newborns so...I think the gift card thing is a good idea - and if you don't live near a bulk warehouse, I always found Big W and Kmart were cheaper if they weren't on special elsewhere. Also, a PP mentioned giving heaps of stuff away, (I wish I was the receiver of the giveaways!!!) keep your reciepts as places will take them back if they aren't opened - I found I was able to swap heaps of things with other friends who were a little bit behind me - like nappies if you don't use them, most people who are still using that size would be more than happy to buy a box of the next size up and swap with you. My DD had BAD allergies to nappies and we had been given 4 bulk bags of Cosifits (chemist brand) and used just 2 or 3 out of 1 packet. So yeah, there can be wastage but be smart and you won't waste precious money (I think it becomes more precious after you have kids cause it has to spread around further and if you aren't working, there is less to go around - but don't worry - there always seems to be enough to pay the bills.

Dear New Mum-To-Be
Totally agree with "Ones enough" Mother as my little girl was born a good weight of 3.9kg but she was in Newborn size til she was about 14 weeks. Everyone told me dont buy much as they are in them less than 2 weeks but that was soooo wrong for me, needless to say u cant guess how long they will take to grow and you just have to guess and wait.

In saying that, a note of advise from me is, if you want to use cloth DONT start them straight off in disposable!! I bought 4 dozen cloth and was doing cloth for 12 months due to finances, however I got given 3 convenience packs of newborn disposible and we decided to use them up in the first couple of weeks of sleepness days/nights and then she wouldn't go into the cloth cause they are soakign after 1 wee and the huggies keeps them permanently dry.

On nappy rash my other peice of advice is ignore ther nurses and use baby powder - my girl is nealy 8 months and never had a rash thanks to powder!

Trac.
If you want to save with nappies a good way would be to buy at least 2 boxes every time there is a sale on them. My daughter still wears the crawler nappies (huggies) and I have never brought them for more than $30 a box!
