Help re nappy rash Rss

Dd was really sick a few weeks ago with a ‘bug’. She had terrible diarrhoea and it made her bum very red, like welts. She would scream through a nappy change. We got cream from the dr which helped and gave her nappy free time until it healed. Well it has healed but it has actually left scars from the welt like marks she had. i have never seen anything like it before. they were bright red and blistered.

But as of yesterday it seems to have come back. She is not sick though. My mil has her today and she said that it has gone an angry red and during nappy free time, dd did a wee and screamed and cried from the pain of it on her bottom

The only difference from the last few days was that she was at childcare and they use curash instead of bepanthon, which is what we always use.
If anyone has any ideas on what we could do to stop it coming back that would be great. I have never experienced this before and it is very obvious that she is in alot of pain. She is 9 months and prior to her being sick, she has never had a problem.

i am about to return to work so wont be able to get back on until tonight

I have never had the problem yet with my son so don't know from personal experience. However I have heard good things about Daktozin and I used to recommended it at work (pharmacy). A few mums let me know it worked well.

It sounds like the rash might have turned fungal? (often a bright red with/without little spots). My DS only got this type of nappy rash once when he was around 10 months and my GP prescribed a mild cortisone cream to help clear it up and recommended afterwards using Daktozin nappy rash cream in future which is great stuff (it's a little sticky to put on but it stays on well even after you put a new nappy on).
If the daktozin doesn't work you'll have to go back to the GP's. I hope your little girl is feeling better soon!

I can relate to this my dd gets a really nasty rash now and then for seemingly no reason. I call it acid bum lol and it has often bled with nappy changes.I suspect it is teething related.

When this happens i make sure i bath her in a soap free bath like an oatmeal wash and definatley recommend daktozin cream buy the big one it works out cheaper around $20.00.

Good luck
i agree that it could be a fungal infection, which regular nappy cream isn't going to work on. try the daktozin, it should work wonders.

i have a great cheap answer cornflour yep plain old cornflour. i never had a prob with my son but dd also had the runs a couple of weeks ago and got a rash like i had never seen before i felt terrible for her . i tried lots of creams . in the end i made sure her bum was nice and dry before putting the nappy on and covered her in cornflour and sprinkled it in her nappy as well it cleared up within 3 days .

yep definately go the Daktozin!

My dd1 at the moment has the most awful nappy rash, so bad that its actually weeping where the broken skin is and she's obviously very upset by it all. As soon as I put the daktozin on she stopped crying. When we went to bath her tonight her bum & girly bits are so much better and certainly not as red as they were at lunch time. Daktozin is fantastic!

Its really really thick stuff and from what I gather, the wee just goes straight through and doesnt stay near the skin so it doesnt hurt them - like a barrier if you know what I mean.

I agree that cornflour is Fantastic for plain old bum rashes... BUT, if it is a fungal rash, the cornflour will actually feed the fungus, so you need to determine whether the rash is fungal or not. Cornflour will work wonders for a non-fungal rash.

My best advice, take your DD to the pharmacy, and ask the pharmacist to have a look, they should be able to give you the appropriate treatment for your child.
Good Luck...
thank you so much!!! i will get the cream tomorrow. she is better this afternoon (thanks to lots of nappy free time and a nice soothing bath) but she has started to cry now as soon as she is put on the change table cos she is expecting it to hurt sad. poor little thing.

she does actually have a top tooth coming through and has a slight temperature (37.3) so i do suspect that this has all come from teething. ds never had any problems like this so i am a bit shocked by how bad she gets and by how quickly.

i do have the cornstarch powder but i havent used it on her whilst she is like this cos i am a bit scared that it wil harden up and scratch her iykwim.

thanks for your help.
The pharmacist told me to use zinc cream on Ns bumb because it works as a barrier cream. She also told me to use the Daktozin to help it heal. I dont know if you can use botha t the one time? Like put the daktozin to help her bum heal but put the zinc cream over the top to proetct her bum?

thanks, i am going to go to the pharmacist tomorrow and ask them what they recommend. i always thought bepanthon was the best of the best. i have never even heard of Daktozin before. i hope it works well and quickly smile .
Our little one had a similar rash after we brought her home from hospital and the dr told us it was fungal. Turned out I had been so concerned she'd get nappy rash from bacteria that her bot was actually too clean and the natural balance of bacteria and fungal elements was skewed to the fungal side. So we put canestan on her until it cleared and then used Brauer nappy treatment cream which was awesome. When the tube ran out we used sudocream for a few days until it was time to shop and the fungal rash came back! We've found the Brauer cream to be amazing!

A friend of mine said her bub i think was 14 months was allergic to fruit when she ate it she would pee and get really red down there and scream. so she stopped feeding her fruit and it went away don't know if this is true but it could be something in her diet ?
I can't relate to this situation all I do to avoid nappy rash is oil or cream him up after bath which is getting harder to do. He had a bit of a testicle rash i think it was from crawling around heaps so I put on some sudocream, its good stuff you don't need to go to a chemist for it either.
Hope she's better smile

Even better than Bepanthan....... Lucus' Paw Paw Cream. Best stuff ever. I use it on absolutely everything.

Sounds very similar to what my DS had back when he was 6 months old. I ended up having to take him to a GP ( we were visiting my family in NZ at the time), who prescribed an antibiotic cream. Good luck with the pharmacist.
we had a similar circumstance got a prescription from the doc even now if im running low i get a new prescription from doc to keep in cupboard, its a antifungal cream "hydrozole" if not a bad rash we use paw paw ointment or lanosin nipple cream as suggested by midwife and chemists

Paw Paw cream in the red tub or tube is the best. It works for not only nappy rash but for cuts etc. Can't beat it.
I must say that the paw paw cream does work really well to help heal. also try bicarb soda in the bath water.
If you want them to use bepanthan at the chilcare center and not curash then they should even if you have to put it in writting.
