Treatment of babies under chin rash Rss

Hi Ladies,

I have a 4 month old son and today i noticed under his chin he has a bit of a nasty red, weepy rash. I have always tried to keep his under chin area clean and dry but it seems it has got a bit bad.

Tonight after his bath i made sure i dried it well but then it just got weepy again.

Any ideas on any treatments or cream i could put under his chin? I was going to put a bit of vaseline or paw paw on but wasn't sure.
I have the same problem with my four month old. We have found that Curash powder (usually for nappy rash) works great, dries it up and clears up any redness. Hope that helps. You can by it in most supermarkets.

I'd try the paw paw ointment and once its cleared then after every feed use a damp washer to clean off any milk or slobber, pat dry and apply a bit of sorbolene - which acts as a barrier for further dribble. Its usually dribble or milk that causes the rash.
My DD has the same thing, I use the crash powder or cream, they work really well for her
I used Weleda baby calandula oil on my dd nearly every day but when her skin was bad and i needed something to give it a bit more protection i sometimes put a bit of her bum cream on which was the weleda nappy rash cream. its great for preventing nappy rash too she didnt get it once. Its a good protective cream and has got the calandula in it aswell to help heal.

Hi mummymeg, where do you buy that cream from?

Thanks ladies for all the suggestions, i have some curash powder so i will try that in the morning. smile
My DD suFfers with the same thing on and off, its always there but flares up in an instant. I am thinking its more eczema now but had previously thought it was just dribble rash the chemist has told me the following things to try; tummy time to help dry out, barrier cream, qv bath wash, dermaveen moisturiser, if it will not get better u can try an anti fungal nappy cream (ie. Daktozin) as it can become a fungal infection.

My DD's flared up terribly the other day in the hot weather so I got a cream from the chemist which they make onsite, it does not list the ingredients so can't tell u what it is but it worked amazingly! The next day the rawness and redness had gone and she was no longer scratching at all, and that was after one application. If u or anyone else want more info PM me and I'll try find out the active ingredients.

ETA: I think vaseline or paw paw should be fine to put on it if that's what u have handy.
We had problems for ages with this and in the end the only thing that worked for us was Dermaveen cream for moisture and bepanthen nappy rash ointment for protection - not white zinc like other nappy rash creams so didn't look as bad either.

I have this problem.. on and off since my LO was about 3months and hes now 7months., i first started using Bepanthen (antibacterial) nappy rash cream.. this worked when it wasnt too bad but when it was bad it wasnt as good.. there is a cream - Lanlin cream (sorry if mispelt)which i couldnt find anywhere!.. BUT this is a main ingredient in Lansinoh cream (the cream used to help sooth nipples when breastfeeding) & as i breastfed i had this on hand.. i cannot tell you how great this worked for my LO everytime it flares up i put it on and its gone within the hour.. its amazing and perfectly safe as you can leave it on your nipples whilst breastfeeding your baby.. i reccomend it 100% smile My MIL is also a natropath and said this is fine.. she advises not to use products containing zinc smile hope this helps!
Hi there,
Paw Paw Ointment is excellent and is natural but a bit smelly. It may help the area heal, but will keep it moist. I use it under my SK's chin after every bath time, and also in any other folds of skin. It is a good preventative I think.
Don't use Johnson & Johnson as their products are full of chemicals even though they claim they are for babies. Petrochemicals and mineral oils are the worst for sensitive skin.
try www.billiegoatsoap.com.au they have excellent natural baby skincare products. The lady started making her own after nothing cured her son's eczema. I use the "Billie Baby Body Washe 250ml" on my baby even though she hasn't got eczema as it is gentle, natural and has no chemicals. I even use it on myself as I used to suffer from eczema. this may be helpful to wash baby in and then try using some of their other moisturiser products.

If the condition doesn't improve, talk to your doctor as there may be another cause that may need treatment.

Hi sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I get it from the chemist or health shop, i normally phone around. I just got some and there was a NZ$7 price difference between 2 chemists that are 2 minutes apart pays to check. Otherwise you can order online at heaps of websites including www.weleda.co.nz
thanks

Be aware that Lucas' Paw Paw ointment has petrochemicals in it (it neglects to mention this on the pack!) - you need to make sure you get one that doesn't if you use paw paw ointment.

I also found Curash powder and Bepanthen to be really good at clearing up my son's chin/neck rashes.
I use diaper rash on his at night time when I don't mind it getting all over his jammies. It really cleared it up just using it once a day. I also use powder occasionally if it's bad.
