6 month old flaking skin Rss

Hi all

Please dont judge, I am a first time mum!

But since my daughter was a baby I would bath her in the J&J bedtime wash then follow with a massage with the Bedtime lotion.

When she got to about 5.5 months, I started using oil instead of the lotion (stil J&J) and since then her skin has been peeling off!! It doesnt bother her at all - only me! its like when we get sunburned then peel afterwards, only on her back and sides.

I talked to my nurse about it and she said as long as her skin is getting moisturised/oiled with anything, her skin should be fine.

Shall I go back to using the lotion? I have since stopped using the bedtime wash and am using alpha keri oil in the bath and moisturising with aveeno then putting J&J baby massage oil on.

confused!!!
Hi,

I am sure you are a good mum.

My baby developed flaky skin with the J & J's bedtime wash early on in the first week of bringing her home from hospital. I thought it must look bad especially with her being so young. I swapped to curash and haven't had a problem since. The oatmeal one seems kinder on her skin but doesn't smell as nice as other wash. I used pawpaw cream to moisturise after her flaky skin. Which didn't take long to come good.

I spoke to my midwife and asked if it could be the JJ's bedtime wash she wasn't sure but said I was second person to ask that today. JJ's is very highly perfumed so you might just have a sensitive baby. Midwide also advised you can just washing with warm water and less often as babies don't really need a daily bath. If it gets worse see a doctor.
You could try moogoo they are a natural cream and have helper many people, babies and and children they have a facebook page and website. Moogoo.com.au look it up I love their creams many mums love their cream for bubs with sensitive skin, dry skin or skin problems even cradle cap. See how you go. I love them and tell everybody!!
I would take baby to a pediatrician to check for allergies, including breastfeeding connections. Also cotton for baby.
Don't be so hard on yourself. Everything is so new and no one really tells you what its really going to be like and every baby is so different. I personally went through ( and still am!) so many different types of washes, creams, oils and lotions etc before I worked out for my sons skin less is more. (He has eczema) At that age is wash him in plain water and then rub an organic coconut oil over him. Not as expensive as almond and sinks in well. Now I still wash him in water and use a moisturizer free from perfumes, parabens, nasties etc. At the moment I'm using nyal eczema relief its just parrafin and oatmeal. I'm still looking for the right moisturiser, the nyal is fine but more sits on his skin and locks moisture in rather than nourishing it .
