Heating for babys room :/ Rss

Hi ladies,

Now my problem is that its getting so cold! And DS room gets so bad at night time it is his first winter this year.
And I'm just wanting to know a cheap heater of some sort that is going to keep his room consistently heated!! At the moment
we are running a small fan heater which im so worried to use! I'm constantly having to turn it on/off but basically I'm wanting
a safe and energy efficient heater of some sort.

Plus we are renting so there is no way I'm able to get this icebox insulated or instal any type of heatpump :/
Our house has gaps to outside that I can poke my finger through lol.
There's no point using a heater here at all, it'd be a waste of money.
In his cot I have a thermal blanket and a polar fleece kind of one then his under blanket, then another thermal blanket, fitted sheet, and I've just added a soft quilt on top of all that. So that's what he goes down on. Then his top sheet, a thermal blanket, another quilt, and that's what he's meant to be under (though he's never stayed under his blankets, ever). I have bumpers around his cot too, as I couldn't find a cot with solid sides (instead of the slat look) when he was born, to stop the droughts.
He wears a onesie with a singlet underneath. As it gets colder he'll also go into one of those sleeping bags with arms too.
I'm in Tassie, we're getting to 0 degree nights now blink
Eek holes!! That must be annoying haha! Well at the moment my son has a fitted sheet and then a polar fleece blanket plus a baby doona, I never knew you could buy thermal bedding will have to have a good look around! But then he sleeps in a full onesie, singlet and i have 2 sleeping sacks ones a polar fleece and the other is nice and thick like doona filling but hes growing out of that one and pumpkin patch isnt selling yet :/
They're just a cotton weave thing, they breathe well. I think I got them at Target, about $15 each. Ebay is good for the sleeping bags, much cheaper than new and usually as good as new. Otherwise, I got my latest ones on sale at Big W for about $9 each.

My house is over 100 years old. Sometimes I just have to be grateful that it's still upright laugh laugh
I live in new zealand used to live in sydney for 11years and sadly we have no target, bigW or ebay :,( its so sad because target baby clothing is so well made! sad the only online store we have is called trademe but personally i think its useless! But I'm sure some of the baby stores over here should sell them.
My son was born in winter and i hated the idea of my newborn sleeping in the freezing cold so we just brought a very small oil heater they are safer than the fan ones and u can turn it down quite low so it just takes the edge off the cold rather than actually warming the room, i cant remember how much we paid but i think it was quite cheap and this time of year they will be everywhere. Otherwise i would just get him a sleeping suit with long sleeve arms that has a tog rating and rug him up and dont worry about the heater at all

Hi There,
We have an oil filled 3 fin column heater (vulcan brand , i think), we purchased for under $50.00 and we leave it on low in my DS room all night. His monitor gives me a room temperature reading and the room is between 19-21 degrees every night throughout winter. I did not notice any increase in our power bill.
Hope you find something suitable
Lisa
last year we had an oil heater set on a timer so it would stay at a constant temp from about 10pm till 6am then the heater would be cooled down enough so when DS was crawling around if he touched it it was cold.
Merino Kids has good sleeping bags - you can get them on trade me cheaper if you look but they are about $120, DS has only just started to grow out of his that we brought at 3months he's now 18month. I personally didn't find the pumkin patch ones any good, glad I didn't pay full price for them.

I live in NZ too and have found a Econo Heat Panel from Mitre 10 that look awesum. ( sory cant do the link thing) Im guna go get 1 this week. B good for idling away in the background. Plus i use wooly blankets etc..
I recently went to this course and they were talking about heating for babys room. I agree with Yarna_carrie the Econo heaters look quite good. The other ladies from the course brought this up too. Apparantly it dosnt put a huge dent in the power bill either. In the mean time im thinking bout using the oil heater. But iv also been putting on a thermal onesie underneath his pjs for something a little extra. smile

My DS sleeps in a ergopouch 3.5tog sleeping bag. He also wears a singlet and a polar fleece jumpsuit. We have a small oil heater with a timer for when it gets really cold. If you're in NZ check out some of the outdoor shops for thermal stuff for kids/babies.
Well i went out on a spending craze today, went out and bulked up on winter clothing, thermals ect! And these cute cotton leggings to go under whatever he is wearing they look so comfy! And a small oil heater! I would love to try one of those eco panels but i don't think my landlord would allow me to drill it into the wall sad
