I gave birth to my son 10 weeks ago and a few week afterwards I got constipated because of the iron tablets i was taking THEN i got what I thought was hemmrhoids so my midwife prescribed ultraproct cream and suppositories..I took the course of those and it didn't work still painful when I went and bleeding!! So she prescribed another course of ultraproct..still didn't work. So about two months later, I went to the doc a few days ago and he prescribed me rectogesic ( which cost $50!! ) and now when I put it on it makes me dizzy and gives me headaches so i don't really want to take it but it's too expensive not to now! He said it could be a small hemmrhiod ( it doesnt feel small!!) or an anal fissure or problems with my stitches which I thought would have healed weeks ago? Has anyone else had this problem of hemmrhiods (or anal tear) not healing for a very long time? The pain lessons sometimes for about a week then comes back..so frustrating!

Take metamucil & coloxyl tablets. More fibre & softens things up which allows the area to heal. Also make sure to drink lots of water.

Cool thanks for the tips, will try it!
If your dr is being vague about what it is I would either get a second opinion or ask to see a specialist. A relative of mine (male) had a fisula that he has had operated on about 6 times; it's something you want to get taken care off if it is a fissual, I've seen the problems it has caused him by not having it treated correctly in the first place.
I hope things are getting better for you now, but in case you are still battling on it sounds exactly like an anal fissure, I have been there twice now... so have tried it all!!! Dont use the cream, and if you are breast feeding definately dont as it crosses into the breast milk, you need to drink heaps of water and I find prunes the best, eating about a dozen every night so your motion the next morning is nice and soft. Metamucil will bulk the poo so often hinders the healing process, just eat lots of fruit, prunes and drink water. It will take a good month to heal (but will feel more comfortable before that) and will be a weak spot of a year so be sure as not to get constipated again or you start over.
It is very painful but you can heal it with dedication!

Hi, I had a similar experience after having DD2. I had a c-section and found after all the medication I had I became severely constipated. It was so bad that I had 2 enemas in hospital. When I came home all the effects of the enemas and laxectives had the opposite effect. I was in so much pain when I had to go if felt like my insides were coming out, worse than labour pain. I contacted my ob and he told me to get Proctosedyl from the chemist. He thought I had an anal fissure.
It took about 3 weeks before my bowels became normal again.
I hope you are feeling better.

I've had the same problem and my doctor eventually (after several laxatives which failed) prescribed Lactulose syrup. It's very sweet so you can add it to a drink or water, and it not only make you want to 'go' but it softens the stools. I took a bit too much that first time, having read the instructions wrong, and it worked in 3 hours but boy did it work!! Just follow what your doctor advises and if it IS an anal fissure as well as haemorrhoids , he can prescribe things which will repair that too.
Hi Bronn, i had my little miss 5 weeks ago now, second bub with a 2nd grade tear which initially wasnt painful but over the last little while it seems as though i may have the same problem as you, i feel a little embaressed about going to the GP to ask them to check it out, would you recommend going back to the maternity ward and chat to them?? I feel as though they are so much more helpful and caring especially cause they are the ones that know first hand how your birth was???
