Tips how to get my almost 8 month old to Rss

Hi Everyone.

My DD is 8 almost 9 months old, and I really would like to be putting her to sleep in her cot to self settle. She is purely breastfed and it always just happens that she falls to sleep after feeding on me, she doesn't have a dummy nor do I intend on giving her one. My biggest worry is that I will get to 12 months and she will become aware of what is going on, and be so used to falling asleep on the boob that I will find it really hard to put her to sleep on her own, in saying that she sometimes does self settle to sleep, but not in her cot. She has fallen asleep without breastfeeding on me a few times and of late keeps falling asleep on her dad. I guess she can't smell any milk on him. I have tried to put her in her cot when she is tired but she just screams and I don't think that is anyway to fall asleep, I have put her in there half asleep and she opens her eyides traitor away and stands up in her cot.

Any tips, books that you think will help me teach her to self settle will be greatly appreciated smile
Hi,
Just wanted to say that which ever way you choose to do it, consistency is the most important thing.. its about breaking a habit and forming a new habit, and the more consistent you are in doing the same thing every time the quicker it will be for her to get used to it.

With my daughter I use to put her in her cot and leave her for 1 or 2 minutes, she would cry a bit but if it got to bad i would go back in and calm her down and tuck her in again and leave the room again for few minutes. In all honesty it does take some crying but everyday it was less, after a week or 2 she went to sleep straight away by herself when I put her down.

Good luck and hope you find a way that works for you smile

I am having the same issue now and my little one is 15 months old!
Its such a hard thing to break as they are SO used to it, but i couldnt agree with the above comment more, sometimes it takes some crying but you are there to settle and tuck them back in and hopefuuly thats enough!

I also agree with consistency being key! I havent been as its been hard and now its even worse to try and get her to sleep! We started no more bottles yesterday and she slept through all last night without waking up! Just put her down now so see how she goes!!

Good luck i know how hard it can be!!
