WHO recommends to start solids at 6 months, so this is what I would follow. Not sure why you think your 3 month old is ready, but just by reading your post, its because she is 'advanced'as she can sit and roll? This has nothing to do with the little ones GI tract being developed yet, and could cause her health problems in the future. No need to rush her along. Really, its just creating more work for yourself, and not giving her any benefit.

Pikler theory is that children should not be put into any possition that they can't put themself into....... i would find it very hard to beleive that a 3 month old baby can put herself into the sitting possition...

babies should lie on back and learn to roll onto front and back again... begin to move on tummy exploring their world.... move onto elbows rolling from back to front..... then crawl then move from crawling to a sitting postition...

you could google this theory which is becoming a practise in many pre schools and homes across NZ.

This comment is not to be rude or be taken in offense in any way but i have worked with very young children who have been sat early and to try and get the to move crawl etc is very hard to go back too if they are used to sitting. also crawling and rolling is fantastic for left and right brain development... great for when they get to school as not being a bum shuffler as many babies are if they are sat.

as for feed a three month old solids i think you need to follow guide lines about that and your own judgement and enjoy your baby while its still a baby they grow soooooo fast.

With everything I've read - you definately should not start your baby on solids until at least 4 months, and even then - it's not really recommended until 6 months old. Does your baby still have the 'tongue thrust reflex', if she does than she is definately not ready for solids.
I would think not, but if she always seems hungry and can handle a spoon in her mouth without gagging or trying to push the spoon out with her tounge, give it a go, you are the best judge of what you child needs.

Hi

Our son was on solids at 3 1/2 months, on our paeds advice.

I would not just go ahead and give them to her without physically seeing your GP or paed first.

They will advise if you can or can't and what to start with & quantities.

Make an appt. Speak to your GP or paed about it.

No-one here can tell you a definite yes or no unfortunately.
I have to agree with pp's too. Just because you believe she is developmentally advanced, doesn't mean her tummy is ready for solids. Wait until 6mths would be my advice smile

Ok heres the thing the research is stereotypical and doesnt apply to all babies and if you wish to put your baby on them you can> it mostly applies to boys however, my son is 10.5kg and is 6 mnths and has been on solids since 3mnths, btw my son isnt overweight all his measurements are off the chart. And i also disagree with discussing it with ur GP, you can but you might find theyll tell you not too. Its your choice your the parent and if you think shes ready go for it it just might make her a bit constipated. I started off with just feeding my son farex at 5pm and then a milk feed at 6 and bed and thats when he started to sleep through. Good luck hun

The big question is though, how do you know your baby is ready??? The OP sounds like she thinks her 3 month old is ready, as she is 'advanced'. This is not a reason. This is why WHO has recommendations, as the MAJORITY of bubs don't need it till 6 months. Of course there are exceptions, but I would say babys' stomachs develop at comparable rates, so to prevent health problems down the track... allergies, chrohns disease, coeliac disease etc, unless there is a medical/health reason to rush them, I just don't see the need. The fact that you mentioned constipation could happen, I'm assuming this is what happened to yours at 3 months, just proves that a 3 months old body is not ready yet.

Sorry....double post

i started feeding my son when he was 4 months old, because after a few weeks of not being settled after feeding, and trying everything else first, worked out he was still hungry, (thanks mum). I started giving him more and more formula until it was just too much. I waited till 4 months and as soon as i started feeding him solids he was back to being happy all the time.

In the end its still your decision. IMO, i wouldn't be feeding her becasue she is "advanced", I would be feeding her if she was still hungry and milk wasn't enough.

I have also read a study that say by giving them some foods too late can also cause allergies and problems down the track too. Porbably not as common as what you are saying though!
I agree with the other posts, 3 months is too early

check out this site, they have heaps of info which will answer all your questions

I replied on another post about this subject, and as i wrote there, I put my daughter on solids just after she was 12 weeks, she was drinking up to 11 200ml bottles a day and was ravenous. I started her on mashed pumpkin, and she was fine. It's really up to the mother, and if the child is ready.

my child was actually pushing my hand with the spoon into her mouth at that age, and that is not an exaggeration. try your baby on something like farex (my girl hated it, so she got mashed pumpkin) and if your baby is actually eating it and not gagging on the spoon, maybe give her one feed a day until she gets used to it.
