Just a quick question regarding feeding my 6 month old. He is currently formula fed and up until he was 6 months i was giving him 5 bottles a day. Now that ive moved up to the 6 month old formula, it says 3-4 bottle feeds and 1-2 solids. Everywhere i have read says dont drop a bottle to give solids. So now i dont know if i should give him 4 bottle feeds and 1 solid meal or 5 bottle feeds and a little bit of solids after his bottle?? Dropping that one bottle seems like alot considering he isnt eating a huge amount yet????
6 month old feeding
DD is 6 months old, and has started solids but we are yet to change the formula, unsure if it is necissary? But from what I have been told/read, formula is still the main source of nutrients up until babe is 9 months, so always top up with formula after solids... Unsure about dropping the feeds? sorry I couldnt be more help!
The best 'non medical' advice I was given when I had DS was - they won't starve themselves cause their brain is physically incapable of making that decision...
When I introduced DS to solids at around 4.5 months (hungry boy, formula wasn't enough) we did fruit puree, baby ceral, blah blah... I offered him one meal in the morning after waking, then when he went for his sleeps he got his bottles. Then I did two meals, still the same bottles so forth and so on - he is nearly three and still wants his milk before his lunchtime nap and before bedtime.
DD on the other hand was grabbing food out of my mouth just about at the age of four months, and she has weaned herself her own way. I only ever pureed one batch of food for her, she liked to pick things up and do it herself so essentially she forced me into 'baby lead weaning'. Since she has been eating however, she is not as keen on the bottles. I put her on full cream milk at 10 months cause I was sick of tipping $$ down the drain with formula... Since about 5 months she has eaten three solid meals a day, with a bottle 3-4 times a day...
Basically, go with what bubs wants. If she wants her bottles, give her bottles, if she discovers food and enjoys that more, then as long as she is getting a balanced diet then the formula 'is not needed'!
