Fussy eater Rss

Hi all, my daughter turns 1 in 3 weeks time. Up until 3 weeks ago she was eating everything I fed her, now she's discovered the art of tantrums whenever I try to restrain her either in her highchair or carseat. At first I thought it was her teething and only gave her cold foods until we were at the inlaws house and she ate EVERYTHING her grandmother fed her; casserole, soup, fruit and yoghurt. The very next day it was the same thing except this time she's added breakfast to the 'mummy I don't want' list. I've tried offering a variety of foods but she just won't give. Is she playing the power struggle card with me? Is this just a phase?
Distressed mummy ;-(
Hi Ninabear, my 2yr old is still a fussy eater, just after he turned one he started dumping any foods he decided he didn't like on the floor or out of his bowl, it would even appear under his bottom while sitting in his highchair!! lol. he is getting better, and he will now try different foods but he is still quite fussy. My mum told me I was worse as a toddler, I refused to eat anything that wasn't milk orientated, lol, but I grew out of it, so will my son and so will your lil girl. all you can do is offer food, only give her 2 choices (that's what I do, makes him feel like he has control) and draw the line. stick to your guns, but also be patient while she tests her own levels of control on her surroundings.
Good luck!

Thank god someone ekse is going through thr same thing! My little girl is doing the exact same thing! mine has no teeth to go with it! Hang in there and lets hope they get better!
At this age it is pretty normal for them to test their boundaries but also to turn off some of their foods!
My daughter is 16 months old and is only just now starting to eat what i consider enough! She has been putting on weight fine though so i am trying to just go with it!
Is she still eating pureed/lumpy foods or is it just whole and solids that she is eating?
Sometimes some babies dont like to only have finger foods and prefer to eat a few things that are easy for them to eat! I think what you are doing with trying different things is a great start but dont give up the next few months tend to be a little odd when it comes to food i have found so hang in there and just keep offering her a large range of fresh and healthy foods!!

Good Luck i hope this has helped!

Thanks Mama Jellybean.
Thanks Nadeene, we can only try I guess.
Hi *~Zimbee~*, it's just frustrating because she won't eat if I feed her but will eat the very same food from anybody else. I have offered various textures but initially pureed which she loved, then moved onto lumpy foods onto combination of lumpy and finger food. But she seems to like being spoonfed the lumpy foods again. By the sounds of it it seems I have a little girl who knows what she wants. I know that we can only offer the food and leave it them about how much they eat it but my only concern is that now she is more active and burning alot more off, that her weight hasn't changed since her 8mth check up.
It was only recently we were suggested to try INCREMIN which is the next thing up from Pentavite and it seems to be working but again, only when everyone other than her mum and dad feed her. Little miss attitude I say!!!!
I will just need to perservere with this and stand my ground.
Thanks heaps for the advice Zimbee smile

Oh i feel your pain hun, i know this dance all too well! My DD went from a stage from 9 months and WOULD NOT let us feed her then was fine at 10 then from 1 it was "i will only eat it if you let me feed myself" ofcourse this resulted in more floor food or extras for the cat than what she was eating! It will always feel like you could be doing more, but i worked myself up so much about it and truth be told she was a happy kid and never went hungry! If she is getting wet and dirty nappies then she is obviously getting a good food/drink intake and the weight gain could be more due to the activity at this age than the food! its at this age that they start to burn the "baby fat" so putting on weight is usually not a must unless they are severly under weight obviously! But check in your blue book if she is in the green zone then she is a healthy weight! No 2 babies are the same and as long as she is happy then try to give her what she wants and then thats it!

One of the wonderful ladies here gave me advice when i first started posting about this very issue and said to me that sometimes the more you push the more they push back and sometimes its easier to let them learn that if they dont eat at meal time then they have to wait for their next snack/meal time! Im also reading the "save our sleep" book by tizzie hall and she encourages stopping when they refuse to eat also! If you like to read i highly recommend it, we started our daughter on her routines 2 weeks ago and we have noticed such a big difference in everything including eating! She has them for all ages and it seems to be working wonderfully!

Hope this helps grin

Hi, my mum has told me that when I was about that age I went through a stage where all I would eat was peanut paste sandwiches. She was so worried she took me to the doctors but was told that as long as I was eating not to worry and I would sort myself out without her pushing me. Apparently that's what happened, after a while I started eating properly and never had any other issues with food.
Good luck with your little one.
