Hiya! I have a two week old baby boy and have started mixed feeding because he never seems to be full once breast fed. Every feed i am putting him on the boob but he fusses and gets frustrated, so i have been topping him up with express milk and sometimes formula.
Would love to other mum's stories and get some advise.

What annoys me is the conflicting advice from hospital staff/midwives.
Also that they tell you it doesn't hurt. Every person I know, it has hurt. You don't have to attach a baby to a mangled bleeding nipple. You can express to give it a break, and heal, then try again. It isn't easy...
Also, I couldn't believe how 'mental' it is. You really need to be in the right head space. Any anxiety or stress can really affect the experience and/or supply for you both.
How frustrating it was also. After the birth, you think "yay, I have my body back!" however BF kind of means you don't...
In saying all this though, once you get it sorted (and with all 3 of mine, I really didn't feel sorted until the 5-6 month mark) it is great. Handy as you don't need the paraphanalea and expence, that goes with bottle feeding. Formula, sterilizers, bottles, having to have the cooled boiled water, heating it up, etc... Also when they have that milky smell, it's beautiful. Not to mention the poop and spews are way worse when it's formula.
Good luck to all ladies who really want to give it a good go, and no judgment intended.

I hate growth spurt because all she wants is the boob lolz at the momment I am trying to give her formula at least once a day and not having any luck .

some babies take longer than others to take of the breast and others its funny how that be all 3 of mine were different. try a different bottle she may not like that one.

you r right breast feeding is not easy and it does hurt unless they are attached properly and they offten unattach theseslves when they feel like it.
bottles can be alot of work to with my last boy i only fees to 8 mths the others were 11 and a half and 13 months. so they are all different.

if you want to breastfeed, my advice is to stop the bottles immediately. The fussiness is usual when a baby is going through a growth spurt and it just takes a couple of days for your supply to catch up with baby's needs. By supplementing with formula or expressed milk you baby is not getting the time at the breast that they need to stimulate your breasts to produce more milk.
The 1st month when i was b.f it defnitly hurt, milk came in on day 4 and so did mastitis... it was so painful it made my toes curl.i didnt have a breast pump either. But i stuck with it and now my nipples are all healed and it doesnt hurt even the slightest. Soo worth it.

thats interesting cause i was told any stimulation of your breast helps produce milk. I have feed 3 babies breast feed that is and expressing straight affter i feed only helped produce more milk. i want everyone on here to feel open and honest with there opinion!!! but also be very mindful that new mums can be very impresionble we neeed to protect them cause they are learning and us mums know that expesially day 3.

Sorry, maybe I should've been clearer. I said no bottles, not necessarily no expressing smile if you express then at some point you offer the baby ebm in a bottle (unless you freeze it) Your baby is much better at stimulating your breasts to produce milk than a pump, if you want to pump then fine, but freeze the milk until your supply is well established. I prefer to keep baby at the breast than pump, it's just more work that I don't have time for smile
