the formula debate.. Rss

which formula do you use or reccomend?

Is there actually one that is better than the other?
I will actually make a serious comment

When you look at the break down of what's in them and how much per serving ( scope ) not a huge difference some might be more in one aspect and less on the other so it all depends on finances what you want your bubs to get more of and what's important to you as a mother

Ps I'm behaving moderators
I have tried to breastfeed, and so far that hasn't worked. So i am expressing.
Im not interested in the price, I want to know what formula is best so i can get a tin as a back up.

Good on for breast feeding- its not easy but apparently it does get easier (I struggled too but am looking forward to trying again with next bubba!!) can you try a nipple shield? They really helped me smile

Anyway, as for formula- we tried s26 but the iron content was too high and made dd constipated and miserable. I was told by my clinic nurse that ones higher in iron caused constipation. We tried Nan but our dd was a chucky baby and this made her worse. We loved lactogen- used that for almost the whole time she was on formula and never had a problem smile

We used Nan (not the Pro Gold one), it was middle price range, widely available and created a very healthy, intelligent, active little boy.
We had no constipation etc.
I know I will get shot down in flames for saying this - don't agonise over breastfeeding. If it isn't working use formula and enjoy being a mum to a beautiful baby. Sometimes the message of 'you must breastfeed' is a bit strong and can make you feel guilty if you use formula. There are probably millions of healthy babies out there raised purely on formula.
Best of luck.

I asked the same question when in hospital and was informed by the pead that all formulas were the same as they need to meet minium standerds to be approved. Different companies may addition ingredients as a selling point by usually not necessary for for babies development. He said the best advice he could give was to go to your local servo or late night shop nearby, see what they stock and try that formula. You can guarentee that it is always after hours you run out of a formula and need to buy more ASAP. Buying a name brand formula is of no help to you then if your baby wont drink a new formula.

Its trial and error really.....what one bub will take, your bub may not. With DD1 when she went onto formula i tried Heinz Nurture and she would not drink it, so decided to try Karicare and she took it and we had no problems with her on it. With DD2 who has recently gone onto formula, i thought i would try Heinz Nurture again and she took to it straight away and we havent had any problems as yet!
If you want to see how bubs goes before buying a whole tin, go to your local chemist and see what they have in trial sachets and buy a few different brands, that way if bubs wont drink it then you havent wasted a whole tin! =)
i struggled with b/f too, and i found that heinz nurture gold was great for my babies. its easy to find at most woolies and chemists and around $18-$22/tin. i never tried plain nurture so i dont actually know what the difference is between the gold and regular formula but the gold was great for me.
If you really want to to bf then don't buy formula as a backup. Way to easy IMO to cave. If I had to use formula then it would probably be Holle or bellamys.
We tried dd on s26 to but it made her constipated also, we also tried her on a few others but she had reflux but nan ha was recommended. In the end though we used karicare, medium price range and good smile if you go the formula option you may have to try a couple before you find one suitable for your bubs tum good luck
I use Nan progold for my DD. I had to give up after 8 weeks of trying to breastfeed, unsuccessfully and constant expressing.
