Bottle issues
Hi all, I have a nearly 6 month old baby and I want to start weaning him off the breast at 6 months. Since he was 4 months old I have tried to get him used to the idea of a bottle just incase he didn't like it, and he still won't really take one. He will take around 10 or 20ml upfront and then he just uses the bottle as a teething toy and won't really suck to drink. He definitely knows that he can he get milk out of it but he just wants breast. He would rather go hours without a feed than take a bottle. He is quite lightweight for a 5 and half month old so I tend to avoid the starve into submission tactic but haven't fully tried it yet. I have tried different positions, I only use breastmilk in the bottle, my husband has even tried when I am not in the house. We have to wrap him up too otherwise if he gets his hands on the bottle he just wants to play with it. I have dropped one feed for the last 2 weeks to practice the bottle with him but he will have hardly any from it and even though he has sligthly improved he is now where near at the stage of taking a full bottle or even half. I don't know what else to do now except to drop more feeds gradually and he has not choice but to take the bottle. Does anyone have any ideas or tips?
i would keep on trying your little one willget there it will just take time i dont know much about it as i always bottle feed my 3 girls... but try not to stress cause they feel the stress too...
Maybe try a different bottle, Tommee tippee bottles are great, and make sure you have the correct flow teat for his age, he might find it harder if the flow is too slow.

i have a similar problem except my bub is 6 weeks.
i want her to be able to use the bottle (with my milk) so that i can go swim laps or get a haircut and my husband can feed her if need be.
she just pushes it out with her tongue, or screams in frustration.
we have tried tommee tippee, avent, pur and nuk bottles and teets of different types/shapes and flows and no luck.
or she'll drink from it one day and then not again.
do u just keep on trying? if we persist, she just goes to sleep. cheeky monkey.

Thanks everyone for your tips, I am pretty calm so as not to stress him out and I am sure that one day (hopefully soon) he will accept it. Yes they are cheeky little people, the best things in the world smile
