how to get a baby to suck a bottle
Hi.I have a 8week old that I breast feed but would love to give him a bottle sometimes, but he wont suck it Ive tried it when hes hungary or got someone else to feed him.He doesnt mind formula beacuse he will drink it if the bottle is in his mouth he just wont suck the teats>ive tried three different teats.any ideas.Thanks.
He is still sooo little. I would try a couple of different teats, I know I bought a heap of avent ones only to discover my DD didn't like them! I tried a few different brands until she settled with the Tommee Tippee closer to nature.
I would also consider expressing a little instead or mixing the formula with ebm to start off with.
But my instinct personally would be to let it go for a while and try again later. My DD wouldn't take a bottle until she was around 16 weeks. You are probably still establishing feeding with him a bit and you also don't want to disrupt your supply too much when he is so little.

At the child care centre I worked at many moons ago we had a couple of breast fed bubs that couldn't work the bottle out, we ended up having to spoon feed the babies with a teaspoon. It's a very long process. My friends bub would only drink from the cheaper bottles. She wasn't happy after spending all that money on tommy tippee bottles lol
But if it was me, I agree with clax, I would just keep bf for a little bit longer. Dd1 started straight on to sippy cups from bf, at about....it escapes me now, probably 5 months or so.
GL! I hope it all works out soon smile

I dont wont to stop breast feeding I have an over supply of milk but sometimes I need to go out with my 5 year old and leave bub at home with dad and bub just screams and screams if Im not around and I only ever go for an hour at a time.
Oh, gotcha. Does bub have a dummy? It might just need something to suck or have in its mouth.

Hi, have you tried the madela brand of breastfeeding bottles? They are expensive but are the best at imitating a mothers nipple. I started doing both breastfeeding and bottle ( with breast milk) at 4 wks due to personal circumstances and it has worked.
Good luck
