Midwife question Rss

Hi
I was just wondering if you could tell me the normal procedure or things a midwife should be checking for at each check up. I am wondering because i follow a forum for mums due in July and some of the other mothers to be often discuss their midwife or ob appointments.
So i was wondering what are the normal things a miswife is suppose to check fro at eacha ppointment, as my midwife only check my protein levels and babys heart beat. But i have noticed others seem to be told the position, weight or size and fundus (which i actually have no idea what that is) should i be concerned that my midwife does not mention or check any of these things, or should i be asking about them?

Sorry for the long post, any help would be great.
thanks

Hey,
Iam also in the July thread. I think the first question is are you private or public in the hospital system? that makes a BIG difference.

I go as public patient and before i turned 28 weeks all the docs did was heartbeat and urine sample. However i now go fortnightly and i get my tummy measured and the bub felt...however i dont know the position of the baby because its too ealry i believe to tell becausde when my baby kicks he moves around still lots.

I do find however that sometimes i have to remind the docs things like my GTT and to have another scan at 32 weeks. but i suppose thats what happens when u go to public hospital and see different people every visit.

Hope that helps
I'm due in August and my midwife does the same as yours except she also checks my blood pressure. My first appointment with her she explained that fundus height (which I think is how high up your uterus is)etc will only be measured later on in the pregnancy. I don't know how much later, but perhaps you're not at that stage yet??

smile Thank u for your replies.

I am in NZ so am going public but i have my own midwife that i have the whole way through and see at every appointment. Forgot to mention that she does check my blood pressure as well.
Maybe if i was being seen by a doctor in a hospital or clinic they would be checking more or maybe its just done differently over here.
well im 30wks now so at next weeks appointment i will ask her when they need to check those other things. thanks for your help and good luck with the rest of your pregnancies.

I have two kids and one on the way and my midwife always checked blood pressure, my weight, proteins etc in my urine, baby's heartbeat, felt my tummy and measured my tummy as well as sending me for the required blood tests and other appointments if necessary. I don't think there is too much to check other than those
my midwife is from a independent midwifery centre.
she checks my blood pressure protiens in my urine and babys heartbeat and also has a good chat on my well being and mental well being - like if i have stress in my life or getting depressed or upset easily. shes really awesome. and then we work out ways that i can help myself or she can help me.
