Eczema and Allergies Rss

My four month old has what the doctor described as a moderate case of eczema. With the introduction of solid food coming soon, I was interested is there much link between food allergy and eczema. And are there any precautions I should take? Neither my husband nor I suffer eczema or food allergies.
Hi Giovana.

Just to let you know that my baby had a very very mild case of eczema, but the Doctors still told me to go really slowly with foods due to the possible link. We to have no family history of allergies. I actually disregarded it at the time.

Unfortunatley for us my daughter does have severe allergies. She is allergic to diary, soy, wheat, egg white, egg yolk, sesame seeds, fish, nuts, banana and corn and has an intolerance to sweet potato.

Due to her allergies food we didn't introduce food until she was 8 months old. At 12 months she eats lots of fruit, vegies, meat, rice pasta and rye bread.

Luckily for us the eczema has stayed really mild, but it is always there.

I very much hope you don't go down the allergy path, but take the foods really slowly, there really is no rush. You soon learn you have plenty of time to introduce foods.

Good Luck
Rochelle
Dear Giovana

There is a link between food allergy (and sensitivity) & eczema. Each sufferer is different however. See a dietitian for assistance or check out the link from our website to Joan Breakey’s “Are you Food Sensitive”.

Hi,
My 6 month old daughter has a mild case of eczema & no one in our family suffers from it. She is on solids & i don't think that any of the foods she eats make it any worse. Goodluck
