Is it neccesary to see an Allergy specialist Rss

Hello there
My DD has eczema and has been diagnosed by a Paediatrican dermatologist in westmead Sydney. She's had skin prick tests and we've determined some things she's allergic to. The dermatalogist has given us some information on what foods to avoid and substitutes for these foods. He has referred us to see an Allergy Specialist and I'm wondering will it be necessary to see them. We have already been given information about what to avoid so is it necessary to see the allergy specialist?
Thanks

Hi,
I've just gotten out of hospital with my son who has severe asthma and eczema. I spoke with many specialists and they actually told me that at my sons age (16months) it is probably more dangerous to seek additional tests through an allergy specialist. If your bub has severe eczema too, maybe you should ask someone else if it's a good idea or not.

I'd personally just avoid the foods in the info you've already been given. I've started testing my son slowly with foods to see how he goes.

Good luck.

Dear naughty smurf

An allergy specialist could help in endeavouring to pinpoint any allergy or sensitivity which would be another step in controlling the eczema. When restricting diet it is wise to consult a dietitian to ensure that you (and your baby) are receiving the necessary nourishment for your own health and the development & health of your baby. You can never have too much information to manage your condition.
