VASECTOMY!!!!!! cross your legs and give me some advice please fella's Rss

I am 30+ weeks preg with our 4th child,

My DH has decided that he would like to have a vasectomy as I have (in his words) "sacrificed enough" with the pregnancies, miscarriages, and labours/births of our children. (the largest thus far is 10lb 2oz - 4600g - natural birth)

I am happy to have my tubes tied, during a c/section, should I need one, but DH doesn't even want me to do that...
We are agreed that this child is our last - 4 is enough for us.

I have had a little pregnancy complication, and under medical advice are not supposed to be having sex until after the baby is born... so do I get my DH to get the snip while I am still preg - and cant do anything, giving him time to heal, and ensure that the procedure is effective, or do we wait until the baby is born, and we know the baby is ok, and healthy?

How long has it taken others to heal/be comfortable again?
What do I need to know in order to help DH after the procedure?
How much doest it cost?
Anything else I really need to know???

Thanks in advance fella's.

Hi, I'm not a guy, just lurking, my ex hubby had one done, and he was surprised at how good he felt. He was able to normal things straight away, but no lifting is allowed for a few days, not even bubs. He only felt uncomfortable when getting off the lounge.
Also he never even needed to take panadol.
It cost around $500.00 now but you get $180(I think) back on Medicare.
You probly wont find too many people here who know about Vasectomy but if I can help you more let me know. My BIL has recently had one also and he is fine.

I've looked into it for DH, (hehehe) and I recommend him getting it done now while you're pregnant.
It can take something like 3months for all the existing spermies in the channels to die, so even if he got it done, he would need to go back to Dr to make sure everything is disabled and he's shooting blanks. lol
I have to get a cyst removed from my ovary soon, so while they're doing that I'm gonna make sure they disable the machine from my end!
At least it's instantaneous, just gotta get over the surgery..
i had mine done
the recommendation is 20 plus ejeculations to empty the system and they expect that that would be covered in 3 months so that is why you get your first test after three months
noone i know has had the all clear after the first test mine came back with sperm still present but dormant so i got a letter saying to have another test in a months time

the procedure was a small amount of pain at the time under a local and walked a little gingerly for an hour was told to take pain relief where necessary
i was warned by friends that as soon as i felt anything after the local started to were of take a panadol rather than waiting for the pain to kick in
i took one panadol as soon as i felt a tingle but never needed any more( i take very few pills so they work fast on me)
i think my situation is becoming the norm now adays and the others with painful stories more a minority but it isn't always plain sailing
the one bit of advice that i will pass on that i got is
don't be to much of a man to tell the doctor when you are feeling pain during the procedure

thanks so much for that. I will pass it on to my DH...
I had one, I know others who have had no drama's, only had 1 fertility test after 8 weeks and got the all clear. But for some reason iv'e been getting these frikkin pains and trust me it's like ya nads are in a vice. Been takin some pills for that which seem to be workin thank god. Other than that shootin blanks is cool and now you can be lazy !
hi , my Dh is ment to be having his none next week, the prob in our case is that i DONT want him to have it done as I am not sure %100 that i dont want 1 more bub , he thinks its funny that hes going ahead with it and i hate the idea, its causing so many problems and we havnt spoken all day, all i ask is for sometime to deside in my on mind theres to be no more not to hate him for not taking my feeling in to considoration.
i wish i was as happy as you to let him have it done.

My hubby took ages to bite the bullet, but in the end he decided it was a walk in the park. His one request was that it be done scapel free - this means being done by laser. We found a doctor who performed this and within an hour it was over. He had relatively no pain, and the only thing that got to him was that he was not allowed to run for two weeks. We were still not allowed unprotected sex for a couple of months (until his sperm count reached zero) but the freedom I fault after he was 'fixed' was amazing. It is so nice now to know we can have 'spur of the moment' sex without hassles is awesome. My advice - go scalpel free - no bruising, no pain. Good luck

Thanks all for your input, an update from me,

Our 4th child, our first DD, was born in caul on Aug 26th, weighing a 'tiny' 8lb 15oz or 4040g (she is my second smallest), in a 50min, drug free labour, and I am still waiting for DH to have the snip!

I am still unsure if I want him to get it done - it is just so final.... But alas, it shall be done, but will have to wait until after Christmas, as work is just too busy...

I keep reminding him that he gets nothing til the job is done! I am so cruel!!!
